We camped at the West Main Trail Head the night before getting our truck serviced. It's a parking lot with a grass circle in the middle. RV's are supposed to park on the inside around the circle.
The park itself is manicured, has a toilet, garbage and doggy bags to clean up after your dog. The trail is popular in the morning and runs along the river.
Just down the street is a laundromat, an RV wash and a DIY dog wash!
There were some homeless people relaxing at the picnic table for a few hours the next day, but no one bothered us.
We saw the posting here and stayed here instead of continuing to Ridgeway. It's meant for an overnight, and the sign explicitly limits campers to one night out of 14 (I think). A wildlife officer said this is occaisionally abused, but not often. The trailhead is popular, and walkers, runners, cyclists and fisherman use the same parking lot. It's clean, and you can walk to a brewpub and a laundromat. What else can one need?
Check out the trail, it's nice, and parallels the river for a few miles.
In town for the day and needed a spot to crash before heading home. This worked. A little noisy since it's so close to the road. Oh and it's walking distance to a brewery. What more do you need
We stayed here overnight and it was perfect. While by a highway, it wasn't a very busy highway. Nice little park and bathroom. Some green space in the circle and around the area. Just what we were looking for to pull over , make dinner and fl asleep. If road noise bothers you, this would be a problem, but we both slept soundly. I did this review while at the site.
Great cell coverage. Would recommend as it is near town.
How cool to have a free place to stay for one night with a short walk to so much! It is right next to a path that follows the river through several parks and is a very close walk to a wonderful dog park. A block away is a place with an RV wash, laundromat and self-service dog wash. Another block or two is Cimarron Coffee Roaster for awesome freshly roasted coffee. Another block further is Chow Down Per Supplies- one of the nicest pet food stores ever! They have a DIY dog wash also (and a groomer), and they had a coupon for a free dog wash when I went in, so we got a free wash. There is also a brewery and a distillery in walking distance. A short drive away is a free dump station with potable water, too! Oh yeah, the actual parking spots for camping are next to a noisy road that had construction happening during my stay which started early in the morning with a lot of back-up beepers. Other than that, it was perfect because after a few days in the backcountry, it is so nice to be walking distance to tons of amenities. Bring some ear plugs in case it is still under construction and you’ll be good. There was a nice big garbage bin to throw away some trash, a bathroom I didn’t use, and a station of dog waste bags all steps from your door.
This is a great location to overnight at, its quiet at night, a little noisier during the day but it is a trailhead leading to a dog park and river trail. There were a couple other RVers. It is recommended that RVers stay on the inner circle. We really enjoyed staying the night here.
It is right off a street so there is some street noise but we didnt experience much.
The last reviewer mentioned construction, there were still construction cones/signs/barriers while we were there, but there was no active construction going on, just equipment.
Montrose does a great job with this whole area. We easily parked our class A with tow. Our dog was able to take advantage of the incredible dog park and we loved walking along the river. What a beautiful place to enjoy a one night free stay!
Bummer! After reading good and recent reviews on West Main Trail Head we decided to give it a shot for an overnight stay as we were passing through the area. When we arrived we saw a sign posted stating No Overnight Parking or Camping. We decided to head over to the Walmart about 5 minutes away. We also called the store and confirmed an overnight stay was fine.
Bummer! I stayed here last year at it was legal and great. Now there are signs up staying no overnight parking or camping allowed. They appear permanent and not short-term Covid-19 related, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s still a nice place to park during the day and walk the river path.
Since we were here one year ago, there is now a posted sign saying “no overnight parking or camping”. We called police dispatch and visited with an officer, he indicated parking was allowed for less than 24 hours, so we did without being disturbed.
