“A hands-on educational experience about the Colorado Plateau”
The Four Corners School of Outdoor Education's new campus, the Canyon Country Discovery Center, offers hands-on educational experiences about the Colorado Plateau through learning stations (exhibits), adventure education field trips, workshops, professional development training, citizen science projects, and classes on our campus, and throughout the Colorado Plateau. Our learning station (exhibits) at the Canyon Country Discovery Center are designed to use a place-based, hands-on, experiential approach to learning. Our Discovery Center is a new kind of learning place, providing real experiences with real things that put people’s learning in their own hands. We strive to provide Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) exhibits designed to engage visitors of all ages, the scale of most exhibits is small, fitting on tabletops. The parts are hand-sized and made for manipulating. We make exhibits with interactive qualities, such that both exhibit and users are changed even in small and unexpected ways by the encounters, while leaving evidence of previous activity for the next user. After “playing” with our educational learning stations, visitors can venture out into canyon country and recognize that what they learned about at the Canyon Country Discovery Center is all around them. *Pets are welcome outside only on a leash.
