“over 600 species on display!!!”
The Monterey Bay Aquarium (or MBA, founded 1984) is located on the former site of a sardine cannery on Cannery Row of the Pacific Ocean shoreline in. It has an annual attendance of 1.8 million visitors. It holds thousands of plants and animals, representing 623 separate named species on display. The aquarium benefits by a high circulation of fresh ocean water which is obtained through pipes which pump it in continuously from Monterey Bay. Today, more than 30 years after opening, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a showcase for the habitats and sea life of one of the world's richest marine regions. More than 35,000 creatures representing over 550 species fill 34 major galleries. With nearly 200 exhibits in all, the Aquarium is a window to the wonders of the ocean.
This is one of the coolest aquariums ever!
You’ll need more than one day to see everything. It is a very large aquarium.

Great aquarium, the variety and quality of exhibits is impressive. There are regular shows outside here, and scuba demos for anyone interested in Monterey's marine features. Must see!
Fun for adults and kids alike- Jellyfish exhibit was my favorite. Get there early.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute has a new exhibit called "Tentacles" and the vampire squid will be joining a midwater octopus which is able to change its appearance from translucent to solid orange.
The penguin and jellyfish exhibits are fantastic.
The best aquarium. Even better than Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. You absolutely must see the Sunfish; it's more mesmerizing than a jellyfish display.
It is simply amazing.
I know it's expensive but this place is amazing. Look at it all, watch a few feedings and 15 minute presentations and you will get your money's worth. We loved the Luna show and feel even better knowing that admission helps pay for their sea otters rescue and rehab program among others. Don't miss the puffins either! Also, expect to pay $40 for an adult tshirt in the gift shop.
