Confirmed by 20 users | Last reported on May 31, 2023The only obstacle was getting there. After recent rains, the dirt road was deeply rutted in a couple of places. We rocked and rolled a bit getting to our site which was the last large site for our 40' towing 16'. Would return only after scouting the road conditions.
We camped at the trailhead for bike riders. Was a little noisy from 9:00 - 10:30 am and again when their rides were finished.
If you want quiet, this is your place.
Not good cell service and sketchy internet.

5 star rating depends on if there has been recent rain. If it has rained, the road turns to a red gooey mess pretty quick and can be a pain in the ass. After a day though it is dried out and overall a pretty easy road if you are not a wimp. This place is amazing late in the year. Mostly have the place to yourself and don't have to deal with the 4 wheeler and dirt bike noise you would earlier in the season. Warm plentiful sunshine all day with cold nights. A ton of great spots with good enough cell service to have Walking Dead marathon on Netflix all night. 10 minutes from town, both national park and Dead Horse state park, surrounded by trails and views and adventure at ever turn. Almost all other BLM land in the areas surrounding Moab no longer have free camping, at least not accessible with a trailer. I scouted a few other spots, 1 near Canyonlands and some up in the La Sal mountains, but not a lick of cell service in either.

Not that there's many free places left in Moab, but it's still pretty great here. You're within 10 minutes of town, close to both national parks, heck you can even drive into arches from this road! Cell service is great. Only issue is all the dirtbikers making noise for a good part of the day, it's on and off and really didn't bother me that much. There was also broken glass all over my site, so not exactly kid friendly. There a lots of sites scattered all the way to the end, if you stay to the right at the fork the road deteriorates, but it is passable as I saw a large airstream at the end. It can be hard to find a spot even during the week, so have a backup plan!

This is a dream spot! Amazing 360 view including the snow peaks of the La Sal Mountains and Arches National Park (yes, we could see both from the bus bedroom window!). I suggest you find a spot off the main road since it gets pretty busy on the weekend and it is quite dusty too. Just drive about half a mile and turn left on a side road, you'll find some great spots on slickrock (recommended if it's rainy). I suggest you take you leave your RV/trailer/5th wheel in one of the first pullout and go explore with your tow vehicle or pickup (ideally a 4 X 4) to find the best spot. There are so many!
The cell coverage (Verizon) varied a bit depending of the amount of users, but we got 4G with our booster.

While I love Moab, Willow Springs is not one of my favorite boondocking spots. It's simply too busy. We had a hard time finding a spot, and ended up right off the dusty, noisy road. The constant flow of OHVs kicking up dust as they zoomed past was tiring after a few days. Yes, there are many side roads with better spots, but they are also extremely rutted and hard to get to without wrecking your RV.
On the plus side, the views are nice, the location is convenient, and the price can't be beat. However, if you want a boondocking experience that doesn't feel like a poorly run RV park, I would suggest going a bit north to Dalton Well or Klondike Bluffs Road.
The cell service reported is with a booster. The signal was good, but the speed varied between moderate and slow depending probably due to the massive amounts of people all using the same tower.

Absolutely perfect for those who get into Moab after sunset and just want a free (safe) place to sleep in your car or set up a tent next to your car. It has plenty of pull offs and good cell coverage. About 13 minutes from turnoff of 191S to Arches National Park Visitor Center. For the low key camper/crasher this is perfect. The beginning segment of the road is unpaved but in good condition and flat. Note it is a bit noisy due to both 191S traffic and popularity, but other than that, perfect.

We stayed for a number of nights in what turned out to be spring break for high schools and colleges. Do not expect a lot of privacy or room in this area, but do expect excellent views, friendly neighbors, and a lot of youthful energy.
Big rigs should take the first site they see that they'll fit in. The road gets worse the further you go, and the sites get much smaller. Avoid this road when very wet.
We had no trouble finding a spot for our sixteen foot camper van. We were even able to "reserve" our spot when we left during the day with a camp table and chairs. This area is used by many tent campers, mountain bikers, and climbers. It's one of the only free camping areas in Moab (it's about 15 miles north of town).
This road is the original entrance to Arches National Park, described by Edward Abbey in the first chapter of Desert Solitaire. It wasn't a wilderness experience, but I loved staying here.
Cell coverage is better in some campsites than others - even if they are only 20 feet apart.

Great spot on the weekdays! Came through looking for sites on the weekend at Willow Springs. It was very crowded. Drove quite a ways down the road coming in on Sunday and there were many more open spots. The roads are really rugged. Lots of rocks, slippery rock and potholes. Didn't know if the 34 foot motorhome would actually make it. But it did and it was well worth the grand expanse and beautiful campsite. Only a few ATVs and motorcycles going through

Clean portopotties throughout. Amazing views, super great trails to ride around (with 4 wheel drive, in case of emergency), so many spots to stay, fire pits readily available.
Watch out for big spiders, and quite windy when you get up high, otherwise amazing.
