We have been trying to read reviews before camping and decided to stay our first night at willow spring. 10 minutes before this camp ground. Willow spring was noisy and busy so the next day we drove around and found this place. What a gem! We camped right under a beautiful stone formation. We were the only ones camping here on Thanksgiving weekend. Although there were about 6 to 8 more campsites and about 4 walk in sites all empty. Campground is about 1 mile off 191. The beginning of the road is gravel but close to the campground is rocky and sandy. 4x4 is a must. We made it fine with our outback and square drop camper on a dry day It may be impassable when wet.. no facility at all. Porta potty required. Would definitely camp here again. Couldn't have been in a better place!!!

This was a great place to camp up against the canyon. Lots of rocks to climb and areas for the kids to play. While we did get our 43’ rig back there, we do not recommend big rigs camping there. There are some steep, uneven terrain that large trailers shouldn’t attempt. We would go back again if we have a smaller rig next time.

Beautiful rock formations, quiet and secluded. Approx 2 mile trail around the rock formations. So grateful for this place. Need high clearance 4 wheel drive to access and your own portapotty. One short section with deep sand.

This was such a beautiful and peaceful campsite with amazing views. As others have said, when you are getting closer to the actual campground there is a section of deep sand. I have a AWD 2017 Kia Sportage and although I was a little nervous we had no problems. You definitely need AWD or 4WD to get past the tricky section right before you enter the campsite. There was a section where there were deep ruts and you had to be careful where you put your tires and the angle you went up the incline. I bottomed out and had to backup and readjust to go over the hill. You then go down a fairly short and steep section. After that you’re at the campsite. We only saw 2 other people in an RV and tent and then another tent camper. Multiple spots but you will have to look around for a spot if you are tent camping, like we were.

We found a parking spot directly to the left after entering the camping area. We backed into the spot then took a short path to where we set up camp. You cannot access the site we stayed at with a car, you have to walk a short distance to the site. It was so beautiful and secluded! If you keep walking there we’re some other sites with fire rings back where we decided to set up camp.

Unfortunately, after 9pm we had terrible wind come through this area. We looked up online that gusts we up to and over 20mph. We tried to stick it out but we were literally inside our tent holding the sides so that it wouldn’t blow over. I’m not sure if this is a common occurrence in this area, or if we were just unlucky. Either way we had to pack up and drive into town to get a hotel room because at that point it was around 11pm. If it hadn’t of been windy we would’ve definitely stayed!!

We had trouble finding the site at first.
We drove in with a rather low sedan (2011 BMW 5 Series) - would not recommend. It worked, but was highly technical for us. The drive up to the campsite needs a bit of ground clearance.

Once there, it's absolutely amazing. The site is next to towering red rock formations. You get to wander around a bit and explore the area. A bit north, or in between the two mountains appears to be seasonal water.

Amazing spot about 25 minutes from town. Definitely have to drive slow to get out here - be sure to scout ahead! Be sure to click the video tab to see a full walkthrough of the campsites.

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid September 2022. We camp in a 20 ft trailer with a lift kit pulled by a Chevy 2500 Duramax.

The road in is not bad until you get past the turn off for the Halfway Stage Station. Just after you pass that intersection you will need to go through a sandy wash that, depending on the rain could be deep. I needed 4WD to pull through it. If you have a car, you will likely hit your bumper on the ground. After that, the road is good until you turn into the camp area. If you have a trailer I highly suggest parking here and scouting for a spot and to look at the road. There are deep off camber ruts and a steep berm. You need to run the correct line. There are 2 spots that will comfortably fit a larger rig, the 3rd spot on the right (which we had) and the end spot. Once you are in, the place is fabulous! Secluded with an amazing dark sky! Most nights we were there 5 of the 7 spots were taken.

PLEASE REMEMBER you are in a canyon and if you talk loudly everyone out there can hear you. Please be courteous and talk quietly and do not run generators all day and night.

Cell service is decent but no TV channels.

We’ve boondocked in lots of spots and this was one of our favorite!

This one is off the beaten path (1.5 miles from pavement) with some rough roads the last mile. Mid May was warm during the day (mid 80s) and cool at night. Plenty of open space and quiet. We saw 3 to 4 of 5 paces occupied each night with most staying just one night. We had the place to ourselves during the day.

Stayed here early December 2022, and it was amazing. Our 33.5’ Outdoors Rv was for sure too long to tow in there, and we had to stack rocks to get through the wash before heading up to site, but it we made it. Just required taking the proper line. And dragging the rear lightly…. 🤣 Once up there, the last site has plenty of room and we only had neighbors one night. Absolutely fantastic. Will probably stay again. I think if you carry traction boards to get through the wash, that might be wise, at least with a longer trailer.

I have a 21ft trailer and it was kind of white knuckle. Cool spot but limited sites.
