Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 01, 2018Summit Lake sits at 6700ft elevation about halfway between the north and south entrances of the Lassen National Park. The campground has two loops. Loop B is reservable (25 sites), while Loop A is first-come, first-served (also about 25 sites). Roads are paved, but narrow and rough and the whole campground is tight for anything much over 24 feet. Careful research before making reservations will help with securing an appropriate site to your needs. Few sites are perfectly level and there are generally more tents than RVs in the campground.
Our three night stay was very pleasant in spite of quite a bit of smoke from wildfires near Redding. Our site, B22 was perfect for us. A small, level(ish) pull-through (they're all small) that fit our small hybrid trailer fine, next to probably the largest level site in the campground in which we set up our large pop-up shelter for an outdoor living room.
Summit Lake is nice for swimming and attracts quite a few day users in the middle of the day. Many hiking trails nearby. A wonderful camp host with a wonderful voice, who strolled the campground with her guitar an hour before quiet time with an original song that included "Just a friendly reminder that it's time to be quiet at 10:00 o'clock". Effective.
Great basic campground in the heart of Lassen National Park.
