“A 13,476-acre state park”
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is a 13,476-acre hardwood bottomland area bordering the mighty Mississippi River 13 miles north of Memphis featuring mature Bald Cypress and Tupelo swamp. Most of the facilities are on top of the majestic Chickasaw Bluffs that rise from the bottomlands and are covered with large oaks, American beech, hickory and sweet gum. There are 10 state Champion Trees and two National Champion Trees as well as endangered and protected plants. Deer, turkey, otter, beaver, foxes and bobcats are plentiful throughout the forest. Over 200 species of songbirds, waterfowl, shorebirds and birds of prey, including the American Bald Eagle can be seen; the area is a favorite for bird-watchers. The park offers activities focused on the nature and beauty of the park. The Nature Center is open Friday-Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and closed for an hour at lunch. Exhibits include live snakes, turtles, salamanders, fish aquariums, stuffed animal exhibit, indoor live butterfly garden (open seasonally), bone table, insect table and a Native American exhibit. Meeman-Shelby Forest offers more than 20 miles of hiking trails that wind throughout the park. Visitors with an interest in hiking will enjoy the approximately eight-mile, wooded Chickasaw Bluff Trail. It is open for horses and hikers and meanders along a bluff with the largest loop overlooking Poplar Tree Lake.

Thanks to Winter Storm Uri, I had to book an RV park with shore power (I didn't winterize my Airstream - that's on me). Anyway, this convenient state park, just 25 mins North of Downtown Memphis, was awesome and cheap. The park itself is beautiful and the sites are not close to each other. However, the bathroom facilities were old and they did look a little dirty. They could have been clean, but since it's old, they don't look nice. The staff is great, the camp host is an amazing guy, and the rangers are polite. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do, particularly, trail hiking/running. There's no cell service inside the park, like "nada", zero, nill. Shore power and water at every RV site, but for sewer, there's a free dumping station at the entrance of the campground. I highly recommend sites 25 and 26 - very spacious. In summary, I'll be back for a quick weekend getaway. We camped at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Enjoyed our stay here and loved the big sites. We hiked to Pioneer Springs one day and drove to the boat launch on the Mississippi River. Wish we had more time we would have liked to bike.

Huge park with lots to do! Two lakes for fishing, lots of hiking trails, bike trail, playgrounds, etc. Tons of space in between sites! Level, paved sites with picnic table, fire ring, and grill but huge cliff behind most sites (feel like that’s important if you have kids with you). Completely shaded! (Lots of mosquitoes!) Lots of nature all around you! Very quiet and dark at night! Some tent campers kept walking through our site (and others) looking for firewood! No sewer connections at site...have to use dump station. No wifi or cell service so do not plan to watch tv! Bathhouse available...clean but old.

Spent one night here at site 49 on the way to Texas. Sites have 30 amp and 50 amp hook ups and water. Dump station available. Playground and primitive camping. Sites are well spaced and most are easy to back in.
If you have a big rig be careful as most Sites are better suited for 24feet or less, but big rigs can easily drive through. We chose site 49 was was a super easy back in with our 29 foot travel trailer.
Followed others suggestions and approached from the south.
No Verizon at all.

We stayed here because we needed a stopover place. It was not worth the drive off the freeway. Very buggy, loud, and unkempt. The camp host’s site looked like a junkyard.

This is a beautiful spot, the sites are nice and spacious, great fire rings and picnic tables. But believe the reviews, not the coverage maps, there is NO cell service. We have all 3 major carriers, antennas and boosters and as soon as you go down into the campground all service is gone. They do have a phone at the bathhouse if you need to make a call.
Our site (32) was great for our 39' fifth wheel, with plenty of room for parking our truck and extra vehicle. Easy to navigate just follow the signs to the campground. Visitor center was nice and staff very helpful, they do have wifi you can use there.
While it was a nice campground we need internet to work so we wouldn't stay here again.

We visited mid March so no mosquitoes. Very thick and beautiful Tennessee woods with a boat ramp at the Mississippi River 9 miles through beautiful forest. The facilities are fine and clean (you’re not staying at the stinking Radisson) There is NO signal, but the friendly Visitor Center offers free Wi-Fi so you can do your business there. Beautifully remote- knocked off one star for fire ring completely full of ash and after mentioning it the first day-no one came to clean it

Very nice park. Sites are fairly nicely spaced but designed before RVs had slide-outs. On my site (24) I had to get over on the right side to have enough room for the slide to clear the pedestal. That put my steps past the edge of the pad - which wouldn't be a problem except that the pad was about 8-10 inches higher than the rest of the site, so I had about an 18 inch drop from my bottom step. This seems to be more of a problem on the sites on the small loops off the main loop.
Otherwise, it's a beautiful park. Pretty lake with ramp access, nice for kayaking. There is quite a bit of hiking and much of it is up and down fairly steep gullies - you'll get a workout.
Camp host (Paul) came around to check on me and tell me where everything was - very friendly.

Loved the park on arrival. Huge, great canopy, beautiful forest, deer, tons of space and privacy between sites, very rugged and outdoorsy. Then we stepped outside. Bugs and poison ivy everywhere, as in every camping site! These bugs don’t care about thermacell or DEET - they will lick it off of you like salt before drinking you up like a tequila shot. Facilities are pretty beat up but not nasty. We would come back but probably early spring when heat, bugs, and poison Ivy are in check. Oh, most sites are short, narrow and uneven, so better suited for smaller rigs.
