“Monkey around &mingle with birds”
Jungle Island is an interactive zoological park in the City of Miami, Florida, United States. It was originally Parrot Jungle and moved from the village of Pinecrest to its present location on Watson Island in the City of Miami and renamed as Parrot Jungle Island. Step into a lush, tropical jungle and mingle with birds, monkeys and the world's most rare and exotic creatures. See sensational animal shows, meet a real liger, and kid around with kangaroos, lemurs and penguins!
This place looked neat until I got to the “animal experiences” which allow you to “hang with a sloth” for $100. Your average zoo doesn’t allow touching or feeding of sloths as they show no outward signs of stress and don’t like being handled. Sad to see these animals being exploited like this.
Ethically, this place is the equivalent of a roadside circus, exploiting wild animals for media productions. Jungle Island perpetuates the misunderstanding of importance wildlife conservation and the meaning of respect for these animals' true nature. Before visiting this facility, take a moment to investigate it's questionable charitable activities and ponder what happens to baby tigers when they grow too large for photo ops.
