This beautiful park, created by the Mackinac Bridge Authority, affords a dramatic view up at the Mackinac Bridge and across the Straits to the recreated Fort Michillimackinac. A telescope permits close-up views of bridge details. Inside the enclosed pavilion, a display and three video monitors convey the scale and excitement of the Mackinac Bridge project, using Herman Ellis's outstanding still photos and movies of the construction process. Older historic images shed more perspective on the transportation challenges posed by the Straits of Mackinac's fast currents and strong winds. Covered picnic shelters with grills are by the pavilion. Restrooms are inside. From U.S. 2 just west of the Bridge, take Boulevard Drive straight down to the lakeside park. OR take the southbound I-75 bridge approach, watch for sign. Open daily from mid-April thru Nov., 7 am to 9 pm (summer) or daylight hours. Wheelchair-accessible.
Reviews
Nice place to stop for a view. Grass areas kid of taken over by sea gulls and geese (full of poo).
This is the closest viewing of the Mackinac Bridge southbound on 75. It's the last exit before the toll. Nice to view the bridge from up close - it's easy to forget how extraordinary it really is! In the park, lots of neat information on the planning and realization of the Mackinac Bridge, and a monument to the workers who died during construction. Well-maintained restrooms and a strange field of seagulls... Since it's an exit (off the southbound), you do have to go north again for about a mile to rejoin 75 South before crossing the bridge.
