Confirmed by 9 users | Last reported on April 12, 2024Goosenecks State Park is famous for its views. There are actually three meanders of the river visible from the park overlook. For years, dispersed camping at the park was free, but now it’s $10 per night ($5 day use) and in my opinion, worth it.
There is a vented outhouse building, one of the cleanest I’ve ever seen, located at the day-use portion of the park. The entrance booth was staffed when I arrived late morning, and there is an iron ranger for payment when the booth isn’t staffed.
Near the entrance are several sites designated by individual trash cans, fire containment rings, and picnic tables. Further from the entrance, the sites are classic boondocking, some marked with a user-built fire pit. There is no water, power, or dump station available.
The views are this park’s claim to fame. For perspective, the Mule Ears formation in the background by the corner of the trailer is nearly 12 miles away.
While the gravel road seems to be very firm, it’s clear that the unimproved desert can be very soft after a rain.
During my visit in mid April, 2015, there were seven units scattered along the rim. I had 4 bars of unboosted AT&T 3G and I’ve heard that Verizon coverage is similar.

I would simply say ditto to the previous review. While it is an unimproved campground the State has put in a new, clean vaulted toilet. You come here to scatter dry camp and take in the therapeutic views.

We tried to camp here last November but the howling 100 mph gusts sent us packing. This time, last March, the weather couldn't have been better.
Spots are widely spaced and there's plenty of room for everyone. We scored the first spot along the rim, closest to the restroom. Only downside was negotiating a route around the big black free range cow when nature called in the middle of the night.
Other than that, this is a magical place at a great price with clean vault toilets. Fire ring and picnic table accompanies each spot.
Watching the light change on the geography below is the best form of wide-screen entertainment!

When this was a free campsite I would say its a 5 star campground. $10 is pretty good though to camp here. The goosenecks looking down upon the might Colorado river are pretty epic. There is tons of room to get far away from the day use parking area and really get some privacy. Usually have decent cell service too. Its a lot easier to access for a quick stop compare to Vally of the Gods.

We stayed three nights at Goosenecks State Park and absolutely loved the views! There are a few sites adjacent to the paved parking area, but most are spaced out along the rim on an unimproved dirt road. Smaller vehicles can make it all the way to the turnaround, but the views don’t get any better so for larger rigs the first couple spots are the best. Each spot has a firepit and a few have picnic tables. There are bathrooms at the parking area, but no showers or hook-ups.
This is a great base to explore the area. Take your toad up the infamous Moki Dugway, a gravel 3-mile section of Hwy 261 with steep switchbacks that ascends 1200 feet up the Cedar Mesa. (Not recommended for larger vehicles, the road has both weight and length restrictions.) Enjoy the views from Muley Point, drive through Valley of the Gods, or explore Natural Bridges National Monument.
Verizon cell service was not reliable, vacillating between 1X and 2 bars of 3G.

This is a great opportunity to camp directly on the rim of a canyon and the unique views of the twisting, turning San Juan river are worth the $10. It is $5 to enter without camping, so worth the extra $5 to spend the night. There are a few established campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. However, if you continue on the rocky road farther around the rim away from the day park area, you can pick any spot you like for dispersed camping. Great place to stargaze. My husband slept out under the stars on the the picnic table. We saw the ranger picking up trash and the pit toilets did not smell. A nice plus.

This is very basic as far as campgrounds go but out of this world views. We chose to drive out a little from the main spots. It was a little rocky but doable. A rental RV tried to take the same path at 20mph which was fun to watch.
Note on Internet if you have AT&T - The coverage here is pretty good but roaming so be careful as AT&T on most contracts has a very low roaming data allowance.

Beautiful small campground. Amazing views.
No ranger on duty while there
Immaculate area, clean vault toilets, trash cans for each site. Only 2 other campers there each night. Camp right at the edge!
The road in is nice and paved but tight and steep. We disconnected our tow car and scouted it ahead of time. Lots of cows also in area.
Close to valley of the gods, natural bridges and many others.
Att Mobley hotspot and T-Mobile iPhones were roaming on USA cellular 3g. Even for 3g it was pretty decent.

This is a great place to spend a day (or a few).
No hook ups but the view makes up for that.
We drove our 45' Class A (towing a Suburban) without any issues.
Night sky is amazing.

We arrived at this park in the middle of a wind storm and it only got worse during the night so we didn't really spend a lot of time looking around. I think this would be a very interesting place to camp for a couple of days so we'll have to come back another time.
We paid the $10 camping fee but after I was wondering if the place we camped was really in the park. From the look of the place on google maps the park itself is quite small and a lot of the camp spots are farther down the road. You have to get to them by going through the park but I'm not convinced they are actually on park property. Anyway, I guess $10 is a small price to pay for access however the road is not in great shape, there are quite a few large rocks that you have to drive over, so take it slow!
