“Vacation Cabins in Mendocino!”
Sallie and Eileen were living in Berkeley. In 1986, we drove across the country looking for a place to move. We drove the back roads, went to the Southern Womenʼs Music Festival, and generally had a great trip. But, we are both California girls, and we soon realized that being far from the ocean was not an option. In December of 1986, we came to Mendocino, and fell in love with it. We subscribed to the local papers, and over the next several months learned a lot about the area and the people. In July of 1987, we came to Mendocino and began the process that would lead to Sallie & Eileenʼs Place. In the beginning, the A-Frame was two storage buildings, with plastic for windows and a tar paper roof. We combined the two buildings, creating two rooms, one of which we rented out beginning New Year's Eve 1987. (At that time, and for the next three and a half years, we served breakfast in our kitchen for the A-Frame guests.) A few months later, with the help of Nancy and Marcia (friends from Oakland who now live in Ukiah), we fixed up the Cabin and began renting it. In 1991, our friend Diane came up from Sebastopol for a few days, and we renovated the A-Frame, opening it up into one large room, adding a kitchen area and fireplace. In 2002, both the A-Frame and the Cabin were renovated and upgraded. Over the years our garden has changed from woodsy to flowery to a combination of the two, and several years ago Eileen dug a tiny pond and added a swinging bench in front of it. Surrounded by ferns and the sounds of flowing water, itʼs a great place for your morning cup of coffee, or curling up in the afternoon with your girlfriend or a good book. Located three miles from Mendocino, close to state parks, beaches, hiking, biking, horseback riding, river canoeing, and ocean kayaking. Sallie & Eileen's Place is a Vacation cabins for women, this place offers two unique accommodations. The cabin includes a full kitchen, dining area, bathroom with tub, living room, loft bedroom with queen bed, sitting area, many windows, private yard, and deck. The A-Frame Studio has a kitchen area, fireplace, sitting area, double bed, large private bathroom with sunken tub, and windows looking into the woods.
