Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 11, 2023This is a hidden gem that doesn't seem to get much use. The campground is situated near the top of Mount Spokane in an area with alpine meadows and small pine trees. It's about a 30-35 mile drive from Spokane. The sites are small; best suited for tents or smaller RV's. There's a water spigot and a vault toilet. No hook-ups.
This is an excellent destination to use as a basecamp for several summer activities; Mt. Spokane has spectacular mountain biking trails, both above and below the campground. You can also ride the park road to the top of the mountain on a road bike. In both cases you need to enjoy going either up or down. There's nothing flat up here. The mountain biking trails are considered fairly advanced and not really good for beginners. There are also really good hiking trails with plenty of alpine flora and fauna to look at and photograph.
The state park is pet friendly. Dogs need to be on leashes and the rangers WILL remind you of this.
The downhill ski resort trails are only a few hundred yards from the campground. The nordic ski area is well below the campground. During many years the road to the campground isn't open until June. So get up here while you can.
Negatives:
-short season
-can get very cold at night
-room for small RV's and tents only
-no hook-ups.

Scouted it, very small not level looking sites arranged in a circle so every camper can see every camper. There is no view from the sites. I was happy I didn't haul my camper up there, as it's like a mountain road that is steep with lots of switchbacks. Might make a suitable base camp for bikers and hikers, just not an attractive camping destination for an RV. Also they want to charge you AND demand a Discovery Pass for vehicles ...or something.
Anyway, iceclimber takes a pass.

Mt. Spokane is a dry camp ground with flushing toilets, fire pits, and drinking water. There are 8 sites and are fairly close together. We have tent camped here several times in the past and love this park. It is a first come first serve campground. The road up is curvy and can be narrow at times, but the Camp Host has a 30 Motor home, so most RV's can make it fine. We where in site 1 which was near the bathrooms but away from all other sites. We went up to pick huckleberries and enjoy the cool Mountain air. There are about 100 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, Mt. biking, walking, horse back riding, (No ATV) and bird watching. We will always come back to enjoy the quiet, cool Mt air.

What a gem! Small state park campground at about a 3000 ft elevation with only 8 sites. Dry Camping only, no dump station, but clean flushable toilets (no showers) and potable water available. Two beautiful trails are accessible from the campground and lots more are within a 10 minute drive with plenty of parking at trailheads. Local foliage is wonderful, views are fantastic from the trails. Quiet hours are enforced and observed - very quiet and relaxing. The camp host, Linda, does such a wonderful job of keeping everything neat and tidy and checking in with campers to see if they have what they need.
Sites are small - only one was a pull through. I wouldn't attempt with anything longer than 23 feet. Each site has a bear box, really nice and large picnic table, firepit and tent pads that are nicely cushioned with pea gravel. Our site, #3, was centrally located without a ton of privacy, but it was still a nice site and folks were respectful and quiet. Decent cell service in the campground.
I am absolutely coming back.

We had a wonderful time here! Pets are allowed if they are leashed. There are lots of trails but we spent a shorter time just driving to the top, parked, and took some beautiful photos. There are restrooms and parking spaces at points throughout the drive up, and it was $10 for a day parking pass which you can buy at a kiosk at the entrance.
