Camp host is very friendly and helpful

Cattle Camp is located mid way along the Mc Cloud River Loop access off of Highway 89 in Northern California. It is a Forest Service Campground, self registration, National Senior passes accepted for 50% discount, vault toilets, water available within the campground, tables and fire rings. Lovely forested area, with some areas having considerable sun if you are looking to help your solar. There are also a few double sites. First come, first served. Max spur 32 feet. The road is paved into the campground and the sites have paved spots for trailers or vehicles. Many of the sites are "larger" and even though you may have neighbors next door, you can often find privacy. It is a popular campground in the summer months as the area has a swimming hole nearby, and the beautiful McCloud River has access within a little distance. Lovely hike along the river (the entire hike is 12 miles, but can be accessed at various stops). Swimming near one of the falls, but at your own risk.
The campground is open May to October.
While we were there even though it was towards the end of the summer, the vault toilets were clean.

This is a great National Forest Park that is just off highway 89 in McCloud. We paid $7.50 with our senior pass. We are a 40’ fifth wheel and had no trouble navigating thru or into the park. There were probably at least 6-7 sites we could fit in. The trees are tall and beautiful, blocking most of the sun from our solar panels, but that’s okay, we’ll just use our power carefully and use our Honda generator. Vault toilets and many water spigots throughout the park. Nice and quiet.

Nice, spacious and very level (paved) site with fire pit.
Vault toilets are cleaned regularly. Plenty of water faucets that can be used to fill up RV tanks as well. Friendly campground host. The McCloud river + swimming hole is a 15 min. walk from the campground.

We had originally wanted to stay at Fowlers Camp but hadn't realized it was mostly by reservation only now. So on down the road we went. Pulled into Cattle Camp not knowing what it was like. Boy were we happily surprised! During busy summer camping season I would recommend arriving around 10 am on a Sun-Thursday to snag a spot , or you might not get one. It is much quieter here (than Fowlers) and a lot less busy. The loops are paved and sites mostly level. Vault toilets, no showers. Good tasting spigot water. Large bear box and low profile fire ring at each site. Those higher fire rings make for cold legs and you can't see the fire burning as good.
We especially liked the River Trail right behind the campground. Lots of beautiful hiking in the springtime and not too hot yet. I loved the wildflowers here. We had a great time here. Easy drive to the 3 McCloud Falls, Mt Shasta, or the little town of McCloud.
Senior pass brought it down to only $7.50 nightly. Our most favorite stop on our 2 week camping trip.

I camp grounds are easy to get to. well-maintained. The spots were level along with concrete around the fire pit. Each site has a Bear proof cabinet. One of the nicer well-established campgrounds.

We stayed here September, 2019. We had "one of those days" where the first place we were planning on going to was being used by CalFire as a staging area for a nearby fire, then drove in to Fowlers and it was packed, so the Fowlers host suggested Cattle Camp - so super happy he did! Nice large pull thru site with a paved area in front of the trailer (which was good as we had to dry out a lot of Oregon rain soaked things). Big open space in front of us - really nice! Our friends traveling with us grabbed the site in front of us and was far enough away. Beautiful walking here - walked to the river a few times. I am posting a video on here as well, but it does include a bit of of trying to get here at the beginning. A bit of highway noise from our site, but that quieted down at night. We would love to spend several days here and just chill!

We stopped here for a quick overnight. Very pleasant and not crowded. Sites are large and well maintained. We didn’t have to un-hitch with the long driveway. Golden passes good for half off. A lot of open space around each site. Very close to 89 but not too noisy.
