“Constructed to give shelter to the Ore Docks”
This Light and breakwater were constructed to give shelter to the Presque Isle ore docks. Here the Lake Freighters load up with taconite (iron ore pellets) from the Soo Line Ore Docks. The Keweenaw Peninsula is very rich in iron ore, and this is one of a hand full of locations with these type of historic and unique loading docks.
