The park is located in the Mississippi Delta on the Crowley’s Ridge Parkway and the Great River Road within the St. Francis National Forest. We stayed in the Beech Point Campground on a peninsula in Bear Creek Lake. There are only 17 sites in the campground with 14 full hookup waterfront sites and 3 tent sites. Ours was a large pull through with a big patio area for the picnic table and fire ring. The bath houses were some of the nicest I've ever seen. Everything was clean and new, the staff at the visitor’s center and the rangers were friendly and helpful, and the view from our site couldn’t be beat.
This is a great place to sit and watch the resident Great Blue Heron and turtles on the lake. The visitor’s center has a very well done and interesting interpretive center about the Mississippi Delta. Free WiFi is available at the visitor's center. The lake is a popular fishing destination and if you enjoy scenic drives the Great River Road and Crowley’s Ridge Parkway are both close by. Oh, and award winning barbeque is just a short drive from the campground. We hated to leave!

This really is a hidden gem. Before you get disappointed, it isn't actually on the Mississippi River but it is on a beautiful lake. Bathhouses are very clean and well kept and the sites were immaculate. The visitor center was awesome. We will definitely be back.

The campsite was large and had a great view. The rest is bad. Upon setting up we noticed a flock of Canadian Geese hanging out in the cove. Nice... until we noticed all the goose poop EVERYWHERE! You could not take a step in the campsite without stepping in poop. Worse, We camp with 3 dogs so we had to keep shoveling goose poop to keep them semi-clean. THEN we rode over to the “beach.” The area where children had been playing and swimmimg all weekend only to find goose poop all over the beach! I realize when outdoors you will come across wildlife and when camping you are in their habitat but you cannot have a beach area open and not have staff to keep it safe! The problem is the very nice- overly nice- visitors’ center is over 4 miles from the actual park. Out of sight out of mind! Ironically on the walk to the bathhouse was a large sign asking campers to please pick up after pets because, “animal waste can cause disease.”

Stayed the weekend. Easy access to groceries in Marianna. Visitor’s center has amazing native garden. Short drive to Helena-West Helena if you want to see the Mississippi River. The St Francis National Forest is pretty great. James Beard award winning bbq available 6 days a week in Marianna.
Keep an eye on the weather. Our site faced north west and a summer thunderstorm came up very quickly before we could secure our awning and it was damaged. Noob mistake on my part, but let me be an example to someone else!

Lovely little park off the beaten path. Very friendly and helpful staff in Visitor Center, which is also very nice. Level sites, clean bathrooms and easy lake access. Bring a kayak or boat or you can rent them from the park. Lots of fishing. Park ranger came through several times a day.
If you like BBQ, a visit to Jones Bar-B-Q in Marianna is a must. Louisiana Purchase State Park is also nearby.
Our site, while not directly on the water, had nice morning and afternoon shade. All sites had very large living areas.

Here for two nights at the end of September - super campground! Relatively new Mississippi River State Park opened in 1999. Very small campground (15 rv sites, all FHU) yet spacious feel on a spit of land with beautiful lake views from every site. Great staff, everything here feels new. Close to historic sites, backcountry drives and real good bbq in Marianna. No internet for us at the site, Wi-fi five miles away at the visitors center. A winner!
