“Where Walt Disney would dream big”
The large cottonwood tree still stands where Walt and Ruth Disney played and waded in the spring that ran at its base. Daydreaming under this tree, a young Walt would observe the nature surrounding him. He later called these adventures "belly botany" and drew from these moments in his early works. He apparently never outgrew his need for inspiration from his favorite spot. On trips back to Marceline, Walt always put aside time for reflection beneath it, spending hours alone with his thoughts, back under his Dreaming Tree. The tree still stands today and visitors are welcome to sit beneath it. Enjoy sitting in the same spot that Walt himself sat while you experience your own belly botany, gather inspiration or just imagine what it must have felt like for Walt.
The Dreaming Tree is not there anymore.
Absolutely worth the stop! Only about 2 miles off the main highway, this is a place everyone should stop who loves Walt Disney.
While the tree itself is no longer standing, there is a picturesque memory walk through the woods and fields that Walt spent as a child. Easy for kids of all ages.
Bring a pen or marker to leave your mark inside the barn.
A cool stop, but unfortunately, the tree is gone. It fell down in 2015 after being struck by lightning. Still, the property is well kept and there is a very well maintained cabin you can walk through. The walls have millions of signatures of precious guests and you can get a sense of Walt’s young life in such a magical place. The town itself is falling to pieces, yet still has a small spark that gives you hope for renovation.
Love it love dinsey:)
Great signs show you where to go and tell a great story.
One of the truly most magical places I've ever been. My best friend and I stopped there on our final travels together. And it truly was the best portion of our trip west.
