“historic site is located adjacent to The Headlands recreational park”
Emmet County owns the historic McGulpin Point Lighthouse, which protected shipping on the Straits of Mackinac against storms, fog and rocks between 1869 and 1906. It was purchased by the county in 2008, which reopened McGulpin to the public with a gala celebration on May 30, 2009.The site is approximately 10 acres and is a half mile north of the Headlands. It includes 336 feet of shoreline on the Straits with a commanding view of the Mackinac Bridge. Trail to the Straits includes new interpretive signage coming in Summer 2015! Beautifully maintained grounds and interior. There is always something new at McGulpin Point!
A nice scenic lookout, a trail to the shore, and a step back in history makes this a great stop when in Mackinaw City! We have 4 kids ages 3-13, and they all enjoyed our time there. There is a self guided audio tour that you can download on your phone with QR codes or through a website. Very interesting and informative.
Totally worth a visit. $3 fee to go view inside the lighthouse but it has amazing views. There is also a hidden gem at the bottom of the path that is so beautiful! It feels like you are at the beach on the west coast with pretty clear blue water. Don’t forget the amazing view of the Mackinac Bridge.
Beautiful lighthouse and museum. Well worth stopping here. Nice easy trail down to the Lake and a great view. Also very cheap
