Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 18, 2023Stayed at the Mackay Tourist Park during the Mackay Rodeo. Located on the outskirts of town, but walkable to Main Street, Mackay Tourist Park provides free camping with 20+ sites. I can't imagine it's ever full, as it wasn't during the rodeo (one of the town's biggest events).
A handful of sites allow for large RV's, the rest are sized for mid-size RV's, truck campers, etc. There is a grassy field for tents.
Clean bathrooms and potable water. No sewer or electric.
Stays over three days require reservations, made by calling the Mackay City Hall.

A cute little park in the very RV friendly town of Mckay, Idaho.
No hook-ups at all, nor is fresh water available. The Mckay Rest Area on the other side of the city (about 1/2 mile away) offers both a dump and fresh water fill - free of charge. No trash receptacles at either this park, or the rest area though.
This park is easily accessible for even the largest rigs. We rolled in at around 8:30pm on a Tuesday night and snagged a spot without issue. Two camping areas exist - a wooded area with older sites, and a newer pull-through big rig area without any tree cover. We chose a spot in the wooded area, and parallel parked the rig in it for a great fit (we're 40'). Most sites have a grill, fire pit, and table or two. There are grass sites or gravel sites - back in, pull through, and parallel sites too.
Flush toilets are ok - nothing special. The park is quiet at night.
This park does take reservations via a phone call to the town. 2 nights free, or you can pay $30 for 10 days (you'll need to speak with the town to do this). The reservation system doesn't appear to be overly well run; we observed some neighbors being moved due to the systems lack of accuracy and/or communication.
There is a laundromat on the corner of Pine and Capital that also offer pay showers ($1.50 for 5 minutes) just down the street.
This is an ATV town, so expect to see off road vehicles roll through the campground and town. There is a really neat old mining exhibit up the hill - and a Mine Hill tour loop which was way cool. Completely recommend the mining museum/exhibit - and the Mine Hill Loop drive if you've got a 4x4 vehicle. Really neat place.
Both Verizon and AT&T worked well here.

We didn't stay here, as we were already set up at Lower Big Lost River. However, we checked it out and spoke with the camp host. It's clean and convenient, and the east part of the park is treed. We'd certainly consider staying here on a return visit. To book a spot, she said, go to the city's web page http://mackayidaho-city.com/home-3/
Here's the deal, according to the website:
Park is closed on Tuesday and Wedensday for maintenance and watering. Camping in the City Tourist Park is free for TWO (2) days and TWO (2) nights on a first come first served basis. NOTE: a spot you select may be reserved by someone else during those two days and two nights which would require you as a nonreservation visitor to vacate that spot.
PLEASE CHECK WITH CAMP HOST BEFORE SELECTING A SPOT
CHECK OUT TIME IS 10:00 A.M.
To ensure that you would not have to move during your stay, it is recommended that you reserve your camp spot by using the web page. Reservation can be made for up to five (5) consecutive days. No fee is charged for the camp site, However a $35.00 fee is charged for using the web page to make the reservation, posting of reserved signs and maintenance.
