Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site, located within the Little North Santiam Recreation Area, offers overnight camping and day use recreation opportunities along a beautiful stretch of river east of Salem. Elkhorn Valley is an excellent basecamp for trips along the Little North Fork Santiam including Opal Creek. The site offers high quality opportunities for camping, swimming, hiking, picnicking and fishing. Elkhorn offers 23 family campsites, five picnic sites, river access trails, water spigots for potable water and on-site volunteer campground hosts. Large trailers not recommended.

Great secluded place. Beautiful river. Campground is for tents only so don’t take your RV there. Host is nice and helpful. Rates appear to be going up. Not a free BLM site.
