They rebuilt the place in 2016. All fixed up and modern. Right in the river too. Fun town as well. Standard RV park spacing... door to door.
The name has changed to Laverne M. Johnson, though I don't believe it had anything to do with protecting the innocent.
Bathrooms were trashed and the playground was truly, exceptionally awesome. Very short walk to Lyons, one of the best towns in these United States in my opinion.
Cell service existed, but waivers fiercely as to usability. At night a large propane fire pit is lit.
If your looking for a mountain setting without being directly in the mountains than this is a good place. Easy in and out of the mountains and walking distance into the town of Lyons. Park is very clean and full hookups.
The campground fee was $25 for full hookups with a $10 reservation fee thru reserve america. We thought the price was great until we got there and saw that our site was dry. There was a full hookup site across the way from us but we didn’t just want to take it because the campground was “reservation only” and we thought that might be a problem later in the day, but the campground host was nowhere to be found so we couldn’t ask if we could take the spot with hookups. Anyway - the $10 fee plus a dry camping site has definitely lowered my star rating.
That being said, if we had gotten a full hookup site, this place would probably get 4 stars. Yes, the sites are tight - the rv sites are in what was part of the parking lot - but we were on the end nearest the tent sites, so the river was just a few steps away. There is a lovely embankment there and a couple of swimming holes. Nothing to complain about there. The place is a city park, so the public toilets are also the camping toilets, but the showers are separate rooms with keypad locks and they were nice. They were clean, warm, and roomy. WARNING: showers are pay. $2 for 2 minutes - up to $3.50 for 6 minutes. I’m so glad I asked a fellow camper about the shower lock combo since the camphost was absent.
We will definitely camp there again, but not unless we plan to stay more than a night or two. That $10 reservation fee really is a bit much.
Nice campground that is close to town, very clean.
We stayed for 3 nights in November and it was sad to leave. The park is located right in the quiet town of Lyons alongside of a cliff with a running stream. The park had coin operated showers and anyone who's taken an rv shower knows its a luxury. We have a toddler and there was plenty of room for her to run around between the two playgrounds and the town itself (which has a great coffee shop). We were 20-30 minute drive between Boulder AND Estes Park. Which allowed us to explore both places a bit before heading south. The park host was really friendly and helpful. We we HIGHLY recommend this place and would stay here again.
This park was so lovely! There are only about 20RV sites. They don’t allow campfires but have a lovely communal fire and beautiful picnic areas. This would be great for families with young kids as there are two amazing playgrounds as well as fishing and swimming. You are right near town and you can leave the park, cross the street and find restaurants, bars and coffee shops. There is a great pinball arcade about a quarter mile away. There is also great hiking just about 2 miles away. The sites aren’t huge so I would say this isnt a place you come and set up a big camp outside but there is so much to do so close by this wasn’t an issue for us.I would totally stay here again!
This RV park is absolutely beautiful. There is a really nice path that circles the park for walking humans or pets. There is no dog park, but there are plenty of trails in the area to take your pet hiking. The park is nicely situated within walking distance of downtown Lyons, CO. From the park you can walk to shops, restaurants, and even a bike store.
The sites are tights...not much room to spread out. We didn't even let out our awning. Parking is free - up to 2 vehicles. We had a full hookup 50 amp site.
Great park. Right next to the river. Reservations are online only. It was $40 plus $10 reservation fee. Water/electricity/sewage is provided. Two hosts available. Park has showers and toilets and also tent camping available. Our 20 ft camper fit perfectly. Would definitely stay here again. Only 22 mins away from Pearl St mall in Boulder.
I’ll start with the town of Lyons is wonderful! The area around the campground is great, with the river being there really nice, and the host are fantastic and friendly.
Ok, whomever designed the campground had never camped before!!!!!
The spots are so close that when you pull in and make sure your slide is in your site, there is 4.2 feet between your RV and the next persons slide!
The water and sewer hookups are in the very back corner of the site so if your hookups are in the front like mine and my neighbor, we had to buy extensions. I don’t know who designed it, but they have never camped before!
You have to get out and open a gate going and coming every time so if it’s hard to get in and out of your rig it might be a pain.
