“marks the site of his death”
In the mid 1600's, French missionary and explorer Father Jacques Marquette landed on a narrow dividing Pere Marquette Lake from Lake Michigan. Father Marquette died and was buried on the peninsula in 1675. A monument now marks the site of his death on the south side of the channel. The 2.4 acre site includes 400 feet of frontage on Pere Marquette Lake and a boat launch facility.
