“Offering breakfast and lunch daily”
République is currently offering breakfast and lunch daily, with the bakery and café open for coffee and pastries beginning at 8:00am. Guests can enjoy a selection of baked goods, sandwiches, salads, coffee, fresh juices, beer and wine throughout the day, either to-go from the counter or at any of our tables. Selections change daily.
Awesome mid(ish)-range brunch/lunch/dinner place on La Brea! Brunch on weekends is probably out of the question with the insane lines, but if you can manage it, it's worth it. Pro tip: the kimchi fried rice is the stuff of legends.
Honey Rye Loaf ($8):
Walter Manzke's wife, Margarita, heads up the French bistro's stellar baking program. She uses locally-ground Grist & Toll flour for her supple bread loaves, including one kissed with a tinge of honey.
Feeling French-y? Named after Paris's 11th arrondissement, Walter Manzke's latest boasts nouvelle bistro cooking and a long Old World wine list. Start with house-baked bread with Normandy butter or wood-oven pan drippings, then continue with tartes a l'Alsacienne, and, of course, steak frites. Finish with warm croissant bread pudding or the addictive salted caramel chocolate cake. Seat up to 30 in the stunning Spanish-style space, replete with wooden beams, stone arches and M.C. Escher-esque tiled floors.
Walter Manzke's radiant new bistro may not be fully complete--a bakery-café and a more formal back dining room are set to open by January--but that hasn't kept diners from packing the house come dinnertime. We recommend you join them.
