Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on March 06, 2021Lockhart state park is about 30 minutes outside of Austin and is just outside the Lockhart city limits. You are minutes away from some of the best BBQ in the state with 4 different restaurants. There is also a great restaurant called Henrys that serves good non BBQ food.
The park has two camping areas, Fairway View Camping Loop and Clear Fork Creek Camping loop. Fairway is shaped like a wheel with a large grassy center. Clear Fork is a long lane with side loop spots, only 3 sites are back in. Fairway is full hook ups. Clear Fork is water and electric only.
There is a swimming pool (fee), play ground, meeting hall, a 9 hole golf course (fee), hiking trails and fishing. There are lots of nice trees and a great view of the course from the Fairway View loop.
Fairway Loop is all back in and there is lots of room for all size units. Clear Fork is for smaller units unless you are really good with a trailer.

Nice little park with plenty to do, especially if you like golf. Fairview loop sites are situated in an organized manner all looking at a fairway. Wide back in spots with full hookup.Sites are paved, but weren't quite level. Google maps will tell you the park closes at 5pm. It does not. The gates are open 24X7 and they have late night arrival processes that are easy to follow. You can reserve online, but not until late 2018 will you get to pick a specific spot with that reservation. This state park is the only one I've seen that provides WiFi. It's not fast by any means, but for checking a few emails it works fine. Be sure and check out the trails map for hiking biking with the kids. They are short, easy and loop around the park.

If you like crowded RV parks, you will like this. I looked around to pick a spot but left. Zero privacy.

For a Texas state park it’s definitely crowded but on a hot summer day, the pool can’t be beat!

Small park with 20 electric sites that parallel an access road to the day use/trail head area, and full hook up sites in a circular area near the camping entrance. There are two elevations in the electric area, one for parking the rig and another for your table and/or tent, and the drop off can be challenging depending on site and rig size. A 5er in site 20 filled the pad entirely so their last step off of their RV steps landed them on a steep incline. Our site had us exiting the RV onto the pad due to how I chose to park, but my truck & trailer is much smaller. Still, we had the slope downward to table and our camp area which is very unusual in how 19 & 20 were set up, almost a daily whose is whose. The Clear Fork Creek running past the campsites create a scenic view, a hiking trail by it's side, and a play area for the kids (who can resist playing down by the river). The sites 15-20 in the electric area are tight maneuvering due to trees and the site design but 1-14 look to be more open & easier, and again all have the slope down to your camp, looks like this section of the campground may have been an afterthought. Still, it works and is a nice park for the woods & trails. The one shower house, with one shower/two potties, is used by campers, day users and whoever wants to once the front office closes, and is kept as clean as can be given this.

Spent a couple days. Lockhart is loaded w/fantastic bbq joints. Amazing places. Park is nice. It was rainy and cold while we were there. They do have a 9 hole golf course. Quite a few trails. We didn't do go to far since it was raining. Sites are paved. Most sites have a little river running behind...

Nine hole golf course, easy to play, and good value. Hiking trails but signage was only fair. One shower each bathroom just ok. High water has damaged some of W/E sites.

Being from Austin Lockhart is practically the backyard for us in terms of camping distance. We enjoyed the many tv channels for evening relaxation, the walking trails for some exercise and fun with our pups, and the BBQ places nearby. While the sites are in this interesting circle, the angles of the sites don't make you feel like you are peeking in your neighbors windows. Very nice location and loved the full hookups.

Pros
Reserved on-line 123 days prior to arrival without incurring any reservation fee. Total cost was $18 each night.
Campsite and entrance fee discount with Texas State Park Pass.
Very quiet in December. No highway or train noise.
Great night sky viewing from park golf course. NO STREET LIGHTS in campground., but toilet facilities had exterior lighting.
Campsite had cooking grill on metal fire ring and barrel BBQ smoker.
Campsite had metal cover over picnic table.
Level site #7.
Grass mowed throughout campsites.
Ample supply of TP, soap and hand towels in toilet facility.
Nice view of Golf Course from FHU campground.
Cons
FHU sites in wagon wheel configuration. Absolutely no privacy from other sites.
Campsite fire rings placed weirdly which created confusion between campers as to which fire ring belong to which campsite.
Water pressure fluctuations constantly.
20 campsites total for this park with 3 park hosts which one is using a numbered site, so only 19 campsites to reserve.
Never saw any park rangers or park security driving through campground; no interaction with Park Hosts.
No security gate closed overnight.
Limited Shade. Seems each FHU site had one tree.
One toilet facility for 20 campsites PLUS day users, except for pool users. One shower only in each Men’s and Women’s.
Campsite #7 full of fire ants!
No campfire for sale.

Verizon = 2.26 Mbps download speed, 0.35 Mbps upload speed
AT&T = 6.1 down & 1.1 up
We were unable to work (zoom calls and webinars) from our site; however, if you drive up the hill to the rec hall, I got 15 down and 6 up with AT&T. Was able to run zoom meetings from there, but not ideal.
The park itself is quaint and nice. Many critters roaming around at night. There’s a playground for the kids and a scavenger hunt around the park they can complete and turn in for a prize.
Takes 45-60 minutes to get to Austin.
