A fishing pier with fish cleaning station (fishing is free), a swimming pool (additional fee), and horseback riding (didn't look into that). Sites are a good size. Restrooms and showers are clean.

Loved this beautiful park. Its very wooded and we had a great lakeside spot. However, there were millions of caterpillars...literally falling out of the sky (spinning silks from the high trees and dangling down and dropping). The mosquitos were bad also. The interesting thing is...we ended up moving 30 minutes up the lake to the KOA and there are no bugs here. Our neighbors did say the bugs are not always this bad. The lakeside sites are beautiful though and I loved that we could fish from our site and the trees were perfect for hanging a hammock. Note that this park was closing April 1st, for the remainder of the year. Apparently they are renovating. There is a daily $5 charge for every person over 17, unless you buy the annual state park pass for $70 which allows all adults in your vehicle to avoid the $5 per day fee. There is also an extra $4 fee for an extra car, per day. Our site was a tight fit due to the trees being so close to the pad, but we were able to fit in our 37 foot 5th wheel.

We had reserved a lakeside site 5 months in advance and it was worth the wait, although most sites here are very pretty with great tree cover. Sites spaced nicely apart. First time to this area of Texas and we were so impressed with the beauty of this park. Our site was a relatively level concrete pad and hookups were trouble free and easy access. Sunsets over the lake in the evening were fantastic! All facilities clean and tidy. Rangers and camp hosts seem to be doing a great job taking care of everything, arriving at each site soon after check out to clean up and remove ashes from fire pits. This is a wonderful place to ride a bike and take your dog. Pool was closed and I’m not sure it has been open in a long time. Kayak rentals apparently seasonal. We hope to return sometime for a longer stay. We are Texas State Park Pass members so we saved the $5 per day person fee, it’s a great deal if you plan to visit more than a couple of parks in one year.

Overall, the park was a good one. It was clean and there are a lot of nice lake views and activities to do. The Pin Oak loop needs to be renovated - it's a little cramped.

We haven't left yet, a couple more nights to go. Sites are pretty good and level, looks like most of the loops have been renovated recently. Quiet place, good stargazing. Only downside is it's really muggy, probably normal for here though.

We love staying at this park! Especially if we can get a spot in the Piney Shores loop. It is right on the bank of the beautiful Lake Livingston, where we enjoyed great sunsets and watching birds such as seagulls, pelicans, and even a pair of Bald Eagles! Most sites are spacious, level, and shaded. A few of them did have sewer hookups that were slightly uphill. Depending on your rig, some sites may require up to 40 feet of electric cord and/or water and sewer hose. . Although the swimming pool has permanently closed, you can swim, boat, and fish in the lake, as well as hike and bike. You can rent kayaks and stand up paddleboards from https://paddleez.com/ from 6:00AM to 6:00PM. There is a small store on site but it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and every day for lunch. Sign said they would be back in an hour, but it didn't say when they left! Mosquitoes and caterpillars can be an issue depending on the time of year. When we were there the entire Pin Oak loop was closed for renovations and this caused both ends of the Trinity Trace trail to be closed as well. There was also some noise during the week as a dump truck would dump dirt and the a dozer would spread it along the shore of the peninsula. During our hikes we saw one grass snake and 2 water snakes. (non-venomous) It is quiet during the night, and stargazing it excellent. For those rainy days, we were able to get a strong 4G Verizon signal, and could get all TV networks except ABC.

We love this state park and it is one of our favorites! This was our third time camping here in the Piney Shores Loop. We arrived on Memorial Day for four nights with reservations made 54 days prior.
We weren't loving Piney Shores #52 back-in campsite much due to:
1. Steep drop-off of the concert pad and the narrow roadway making backing in challenging.
2. The dirt area around the picnic table, fire pit and lantern pole was a huge MUD hole! What a mess due to daily rains.
3. No concrete pad under the picnic table, so your feet were in the MUD hole!
HINT - Park Maintenance needs to apply some medium size gravel around table and fire pit.
4. Picnic table (chained to the ground) and fire pit were right next to each other. WHO DESIGNS THESES CAMPSITES??
5. Power interruptions, albeit short. Very glad we had our power surge protector.
We loved:
1. Very level concrete pad requiring no additional leveling efforts.
2. Huge campsite along the lakefront with access to launch kayak/canoe or even swim (which we didn't).
3. Gorgeous sunsets over the lake. It was wonderful to sit at the fire facing the lake and watch the sunsets.
4. The squirrels that ate from our fingertips! It was also really amusing to find the squirrels VERY friendly. They just hoped up onto our laps and took peanuts in the shell from our fingertips!
5. Super quiet as only 6 full hook up campsites were occupied due to COVID operating restrictions.

This park is undergoing a thorough and much needed renovation. Two of the three boat ramps and the park store are closed. The docks have been removed and are being replaced. The swimming pool is permanently closed and the there is no longer a horse stable. The sites in the Pin Oak Loop have been renovated and reopened within the last 7 months. Excellent, level concrete pads. Several of the sites do not drain well after a heavy rain. Mosquitoes are ferocious! In the "Activities Area" is a nice place to swim off the seawall. Park was very quiet except for construction activity during the day.

First I’ll comment on the park hosts, the clean every site the moment someone leaves so that the person coming in has a clean site. They were fast, too!
Our site was in the Red Oak area, just one street away from the water line. Those sites were all booked, but thank goodness because we stayed here over the Christmas and New Years weeks and the sites on the water were cold and windy. Our site was absolutely perfect! It was large, heavily wooded, private, and level. We walked around all the sites and genuinely feel ours was the best one without a lake view. Many are open and lack privacy.
They have a ton to do here, but not too much hiking if that’s your thing (it’s ours, so this was a bummer). Verizon and AT&T service were great and I was able to work without issue using our Verizon hotspot.
Amazing sunrises and sunsets! There’s a lumber spot in town with super cheap firewood, which the park directed us to. All around great park!

Pretty standard state park fare - nothing amazing but nothing negative either. We had a site very close to the boat ramp which was great when we took out the kayak. The lake was really quiet, we were the only boaters out. Can walk along the waterfront the length of the park. Took a walk on the boardwalk to duck and frog ponds and that was a nice very easy walk with the kids. Mid-week so it was quiet, made for good bike riding.
Cell signal was OK, better the closer you got to the lake. The store and activity center were closed for construction. Sites kinda close together. Pine forest is unexpected in Texas but was a nice treat.
