Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on March 28, 2023We wanted to stay as close to the south side of St. George Utah as possible to be near family. This site was unbelievably convenient. It was minutes into St. George but yet totally free. You take BLM Road 1069 from the River Rd exit off of Southern Parkway. There are few spots along 1069 by the hills but these are often full of people with ATV trailers or horse trailers during the day. We went until BLM 1069 met up with BLM 1009 and took a little side spur on the top of the ridge. There are 4 apparent camp spots here and almost no one drives this little side road so it's a bit quieter. We had 3 bars of Verizon LTE with our booster.
A couple of notes. This is actually AZ State Trust Land and there are signs warning about trespassing and the need for a permit. We couldn't find any definite information about a camping permit so we didn't get one. We were here 2 weeks and saw the sheriff or a park ranger multiple times and were never questioned.
This is a hot spot for ATVing as well as target shooting. You will have ATVs and pickup trucks roaring along BLM 1069 so be aware. Also, weekends get very crowded. There are target shooting locations behind most of the hills and we had people shooting not too far from our Airstream multiple times. We didn't feel in danger but it is something we had to get used to. In addition all the shooting means there is A LOT of trash in those areas and some of it blows around. It's really sad how much is dumped here but our site wasn't too bad after a quick cleanup.
Overall for the convenience, safety, and views, we couldn't beat this location and we'll be back. Our GPS Location was 36.992977, -113.572144 and there are 3 more spots farther down the small road we were on.

We stayed at this spot last night along with probably 10 other units however, the area is so big that none of us were anywhere close to each other. If arriving in the dark, you will probably want to camp closer to the main road than we did but the thing to note here is the dust. Staying as far from the main road will keep this down. Great free spot, close to St George but my biggest negative was the millions upon millions of desert thorn bushes. We have two dogs and this place was a nightmare for them. Lots of thorn pulling from paws and the place is littered with them.
This spot will work just fine if you have no pets. There is decent LTE signal with AT&T with a Unite Explore Hotspot and it's stunning scenery and dark nights, made for a wonderful nights sleep.
We are in a 56ft rig (truck and trailer) and had no problems maneuvering.
There was some litter dumped near our spot and some shot up electronics but other than that it was clean.

Overall a decent place to call it a night. We found a spot up on a hill close enough to hear generators but not so close they kept us up all night. There was some broken glass around our site and tons of shotgun shells and clay pigeon remnants scattered about. Clearly a shooting area but most of that was going on further away. Got quiet at night with very little traffic passing. Good enough for a night or so, would not want to spend a long time here.

Close to the entrance is a lot of shooting areas but as you work your way back towards the hyrogliphics there are a fair amount of pullouts away from the activity. We found a nice level spot on the hill and stayed for the night. Plenary of traffic durning the day but very peaceful at night.

Nice location, only 15 minutes into Saint George. There is definitely better campsites in the area, but this was is very convienent for checking out Saint George When you get off the highway, you cross over a cattle guard and the road turns to gravel. Road is very well maintained, hardly any ruts this first mile.
We didn’t venture passed our campsite.
Cell signal for Verizon and ATT where both usable and could stream. .
We camped about a mile down on the right, plenty of space for big rigs. (40’ plus toad for us)

This area was very busy!! Tons of ATV and plenty of other RVs camping here. It is easy access and plenty of space between rigs. However, this is Arizona trust land and you need a permit to camp here! $20/year for a family. $15/year if you’re single. It is 15 minutes to St George for food, shopping and restaurants.
Because of its popularity we found lots of trash including nails, metal parts, plastic containers, etc. We would only stay again for its convenience for stocking up on groceries and passing through the area.

We were really far away from everyone. Walked our dogs everyday on the endless roads. 10 minutes to town. Fast internet service. Lots and lots of huge, clear spaces. What more could you ask for?
A bit of trash but that’s sadly normal these days. The further out you go, the less trash. Do keep your dogs on a leash if they don’t recall well because prickers are abundant. This is Arizona Trust Land. It’s $15 for a permit for the year. It’s the way they keep out the homeless. You have to move a half mile every 14 days. We were here in October. Can’t imagine how hot it is in the summer!

Noisy during the day but very quiet at night. Lots of ATV’s and dirt bikes buzzing by but it wasn’t a problem because we were gone all day. We wanted to find a place close to St. George and this place filled the bill. Its 10 miles sw if town and about 18 from Snow Canyon. We chose a site about .2 mile from the turnoff. It was level and had a rock ringed fire pit. The closest camper was about 200 yards away.

So this land may not be around for very long, there is a lot of developments around the area. The dirt road in is very well maintained. The first area to the right was occupied so we went further up the road and turned right on the second road that went up and opened up to a large plateau where you could fit about 6 big rigs with lots of space between them. The sites are dirt but pretty level. We did not venture further since we were happy with the site we found but we could see other big rigs in the distance. Lots of ATV dirt roads to go explore and mountain biking. St. George is about 4 miles so you could drive in to get some food. The first site we stopped at was littered with trash but a little further on the plateau it was cleaner.
Expect dust but we loved the open feel where we could watch both the sunrise and sunset over the low desert hills.
Cell service was adequate, I was able to do some work on my computer with Verizon.

I got there late afternoon mid week and could only find a spot right along on of the main road (dirt). It was inundated by inconsiderate ATV and four wheel truckers jamming down the road even late at night. Dust clouds were constant. Early in the morning I also heard gunshots nearby. I couldn’t wait to get out of there so I packed up and left pretty early pulling my trailer. Past by a spot nearby where a guy was indeed shooting a gun.
