Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on April 18, 2023The Baca campground sits about 5 miles in off the main highway. The initial entry off the main road can be a bit rough, but taking it slowly should allow for safe passage for just about any size rig. We took our 28' trailer to the site without a problem. Once you get past the second mile or so of gravel road, it seems to smooth out quite a bit. The campsites all sit in a loop with plenty of room for privacy or group gatherings alike. The mountains set a serene view no matter where you decide to settle in. Pit toilets were very well maintained when we visited in March. Overall, a wonderful find for any adventurous boondockers. We'll definitely make a return trip sometime soon. (Verizon LTE showed 4 bars for those who might have to work on the road like we do.)

We did NOT camp here, but we came up here to have a picnic lunch and to see if it big enough for our 31' 5th wheel is. It is for sure. There are multiple firings all over the place and it looks like people just parked by them. Nobody was camping here, but we did see the forest ranger drive through. The road up was well grated all the way up. The vault toilet was fly free (on an 82F day) and not smelly at all. It seemed clean and had an ample supply of TP. I did get on my phone and had a good signal for data on Verizon. The turn off of HWY 380 to Forest Road 57 is right next to a picnic site on the north side of the HWY.

Amazing campground, very peaceful, well maintained, there were a couple of other people but very far away. It gets a little cold at night, but overall the views and the experience has been amazing!!! Totally worth the drive

Baca Campground sits about 5 miles from Hy-380. There are two gates at the turn, be sure to take the left-most gate, the other only leads to some picnic tables that's well marked no camping.
The road in is well graveled where it might get muddy/slick, a little wash-boarded in places, but easily traveled by about any size rig. There are about 5 cattle guards along the route, and most side roads are clearly marked Private/no trespassing.
Baca CG sits in a valley, about 6500' elevation by my GPS. Temps were moderate during the day, reaching 90* once, but the nites were low to mid 60's making for great sleeping. We were parked under a couple of trees mitigating the heat, just had to run the portable solar panels out a ways. The place is quiet, except for an occasional moo from a cow, which there were a few the first couple of days, but they left for other pastures, I suppose.
There had been a few showers days before we arrived, and some afternoon showers while we were here. It sure made for a beautiful place, grass & trees were greened up nicely. There's a fire-ring near about each tree, plenty of places to camp. And exploring, we found there is abundant dispersed camping across the road, and further down the road. For those that like to put up hummingbird feeders, there's an abundance of the little critters here.
There were some local campers that came in on the weekend, but those couple of days were all they stayed, the rest of the time, there was only one other camper, at times. Respectful folks, parked way across the CG.
Restroom were well maintained, clean & well stocked with paper. There are two his/her units available. What I didn't know, the NFS allows 30 days camping out of 45 days, here. Perhaps to accommodate fall hunters.
There is the BLM Rob Jaggers and Cave Campgrounds near by, but this is our favorite in the area.
We had 3 bars of Verizon LTE on our MiFi device & phones. Makes it easy to keep up with the world, should you wish.

I was the only camping person. A few people came and went. The AT&T signal came and went with the storms. Very lonely. But so nice. Lots of birds. I heard coyotes in the early morning.

Very nice spot in the middle of the mountains.
A lot of spots so find the one you want to be by yourself.
We were supposed to stay 2 nights however our generator blew up on us so we had to leave early. We were upset by that, because we really enjoyed it. Also, MOOOOO found some cows.

So peaceful and quiet! Cool breeze! There are maybe 4 other people here, but we’re far apart. Pit toilet is super clean. Supposed to drop to the mid 50’s tonight perfect for camping!

I am not sure why this has received all of the 5 star reviews. It is perfectly fine for an overnight stop while traveling but it is not a "destination" campsite. It was previously a small homesite or ranch. You can see a chimney from a home that burned sometime in the past. It is a parcel of land surrounded by a barbed wire fence and cow pastures. It is quiet and there is plenty of room to spread out.

A long gravel road leads to the Baca campground, doable in our Sprinter van. Careful navigating the campground “free for all” as there are rocks, humps, nails, and broken glass. Wouldn’t recommend arriving after dark. Pit toilets. Lots of “fire rings” around. Nice mountain and sunset views. Junipers and a few talker pines. Busy on weekends. Evidently well used. Please leave no trace!

Access road is a maintained gravel road with some areas of washboard.
We spent 3 nights here to get away up in the mountains. Large open area to camp on USFS land. Plenty of fire rings and spots to camp. We only saw 2-3 other campers during the duration of our trip.
You may get visits from the cows and other wildlife in the area.
Great place to star gaze. We had a great view of a meteor shower one night we were there.
Didn't use the vault toilets, but they were open.
I did take up a 43' fifth wheel, but I had driven the road before. As long as you are an experienced and conscientious driver (avoiding trees and branches) you shouldn't have too much of a problem.
