“One of the top racetracks in the usa”
Keeneland is unique because it is both a Thoroughbred racetrack and an auction company. Keeneland is also known for its extensive reference library on horse racing, which contains more than 10,000 volumes, an extensive video collection, and a substantial collection of photos and newspaper clippings. In 2009, the Horseplayers Association of North America introduced a rating system for 65 racetracks in the USA. Keeneland was ranked #1 of the top ten tracks. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
There is a public auction of Thoroughbred yearlings held every September. They sell nearly 5000 horses during this sale, some bringing upwards of $2 Million. A must see as the Kentuckians provide superb hospitality in showing off their bumper crop of homebred horses.
