“Books, art, and a big old lake!”
The Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore offers a free film, educational exhibits, and art exhibits. You'll also find an excellent selection of regional books, maps, T-shirts, posters, local crafts, and specialty gifts. The Committee houses the Lee Vining Chamber of Commerce with information on lodging, dining, and recreation opportunities as well as weather and road conditions. The Mono Lake Committee is also a non-profit citizensí group founded in 1978 and dedicated to protecting and restoring the Mono Basin ecosystem, educating the public about Mono Lake and the impacts on the environment of excessive water use, and promoting cooperative solutions that protect Mono Lake and meet real water needs without transferring environmental problems to other areas.
The Mono Lake Committee Bookstore has an excellent selection of books on the region and locally made arts and crafts. But the best reason to stop is that they also have computers and internet for visitors and they have great tips on where to stay and what to do, both for the immediate area, Bodie, and for nearbyYosemite.
