“Nestled near Pyramid Lake”
Los Alamos is set at an elevation of 2,600 feet near the southern border of the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, and about 2.5 miles north of Pyramid Lake. Pyramid Lake is a big lake, covering 1,300 acres with 20 miles of shoreline, and is extremely popular for waterskiing and fast boating (35 mph speed limit), as well as for sailboarding (best at the northern launch point), fishing (best in the spring and early summer and in the fall for striped bass), and swimming. A lifeguard is on duty at the boat launch area during the summer season. There are 93 sites and three group sites for tents or RVs up to 40 feet (no hookups) that can accommodate up to 25 people each. Picnic tables and fire pits are provided. Drinking water and flush toilets are available. A boat ramp is at the Emigrant Landing Picnic Area. Some facilities are wheelchair-accessible. Leashed pets are permitted. Reservations are not accepted for individual sites, but are required for group sites at 661/248-6725. Sites are $14 per night, $7 per night per each additional vehicle, $65 per night for a group site. Open year-round.

Spacious sites but no trees or foliage separating them. The new caretakers (there through the winter 17-18) are fabulous. Fun to hike the hills/mountains right in the campground. Spectacular views, sunsets, and star-gazing!

This is a wonderful small campground convenient to Hwy 5. Dry camping with plenty of campsites with full sun for solar. Plenty of places to run and there is an ATV area close by. The blocks that outline the campsites can be tight for bigger rigs. There are a few pull through sites and all have fire rings and picnic tables. We did not use the restrooms and there is a dump station. We were there during spring break Sunday-Wednesday and had the whole place to ourselves.

This place is BEAUTIFUL! Our kids loved running up and down the hills and digging in the sand. We stopped here for an overnight on our way to Palm Springs from the San Benito area. When we arrived at 5:30pm we were the only ones there, a couple other overnighters showed up a bit later but it was really quite. Some of the sites are small but we were able to find plenty of sites to fit our 28ft trailer and 18ft van. It’s dry camping. The water at the campground tasted good and was readily available. when we were leaving we noticed the pull thru sites have sewer so we could’ve filled our clean water tank and used our sink. It’s close to I-5 and only takes about 10 mins to get there and there’s no crazy hills to drive or anything like that. It’s close to pyramid lake but we didn’t check it out, though driving past it loos like there a great sandy beach area for swimming.

We stopped here for a layover on our way to Tahoe area. The place makes for a good start but I wouldn’t stay here for more than a night. We approached with no reservation and had no problem parking our 45 foot fifth wheel. Cell service is decent. No services. RV waste station available. Nice people at the camp.

Stayed here on our way to the desert. Sites are not real flat and the bigger sites are up the hill 58-85.
Easy access off the 5.
New camp hosts had just arrived and were very friendly and working to improve the sites and campground. The sand flees are a problem in the hot afternoon if the wind is down so bring Cutters. Camp hosts are aware and may be able to improve that condition!

Pyramid Lake Campground is open. Stayed here for 3 nights, 10/14/20 - 10/16/20. We were the only ones here. Nice level site, but some other sites not quite as level. Water. We didn't use the bathrooms so I cannot comment on them. Table and nice shade tree which was a plus. Overall a good stay and would come back. They have a lot of sites closed off right now because of Covid. No hookups. $10 is with senior pass, normally $20.

We were at site 46.
Pros: pretty quiet (as in noise and not that many other campers), decent site (46), level, nice camp host, dump station in good shape, space between sites, not too close to highway
Cons: pretty windy (but it kept the) little flies (at bay), site 46 was pretty narrow to cack into (26’ tt with truck), all sites looked pretty narrow, some looked pretty torn up

This campground is HUGE. 90 some spaces in 4 separate loops. No frills. About half the sites are back in (and a bit narrow) and the other half are pull-through semi-circles. I took a pull through that was perfectly level. Didn't need any blocks at all. I had loop 1, all to myself. The Hostess (Sheryl) was a lovely woman and my dog Cosmo got along with her dog Tank (aptly named). There are garbage cans close to every site, many dumpsters, and every loop has bathrooms that are clean and well kept. The sites are clean. I chose no hookups, but there was potable water spigots throughout if you need to refil a tank, and a dumpsite on premises included in the cost. Be sure to mention if you have an America The Beautiful pass. It got me 50% off and I paid only $30 for three nights.
There is very little light polution and the stars and planets were amazing. Access is easy. Everything about this campground was easy. They had ice and a few odds and ends in the "check in shed" like bug spray, batteries, etc. No stores nearby, so come stocked up on food.
I planned on staying one night, but hung out for 3 days. It was just nice, clean, cheap and easy. Pyramid lake is about a mile away. It was OK, but you have to pay $12 to get in and the lake is closed to swimmers due to toxic algae.
