The sites are close together much like a KOA but what sets this place apart is that you can go hiking and fishing close to your site. We saw bald eagles in the trees right outside our camper. They have a huge field for kids to play and dogs to run. This seems like the place to be in the summer!

First, you pass many "mom and pop" style campgrounds on the highway here; do not despair, this is a very nice campground! They are building a new office so the temporary office is a bit of a mess, the new one will also be nice! Campgrounds here are 50A FHU concrete pads and patios with little shade (trees are still very young) with a big playground and nice clean shower house. The Niangua River runs along this campground, they also outfit you for float trips or fishing at the office. Further down the road is a chapel, primitive and 30A only sites in a second campground.
The grounds are well cared for and the river is very clean. Bennett Springs SP is just west of this campground and they release hundreds of trout every day during the fishing season. The area off the gravel bar at the campground has many trout for the fishermen in your crowd. That same gravel bar is a wonderful place to sit in your chair and R-E-L-A-X.
We will definitely return here. Site #38 is the first site across from the river and coveted by all!

I have been camping here since the first year they opened and stay at least 6 times a year here. The people are very friendly, pretty quiet, great views of the night sky, on the river so you can wake up in the morning and go fishing, bird watching or just relax next to the river. They also have a spot for swimming in the summer and it is early on in the river so it is very kid friendly even on the heavy float trip days. They do offer float trips on the upper part of the river, great for some small mouth, as well as the lower section which has fantastic fishing (except for Saturdays from memorial day to labor day) and some really nice views. If you want to float and relax i highly recommended in the fall when the leaves are changing.
