“In the beautiful black hills”
Its idyllic setting in a side canyon to Spearfish Canyon makes Roughlock Falls one of the Black Hills most beautiful areas and also one the area's most-photographed spots. Created by Little Spearfish Creek, the creek flows down a spectacular chasm, then tumbles off a 50-foot limestone ledge in a series of lacy cascades. Operated by SD Dept. of Game, Fish & Parks, there are shady picnic facilities and restrooms, along with trails, catwalks and amazingly designed viewing nodes. A popular destination for decades, the newly-improved walkways offer easy access to this wonderland. It is also known as one of the few places in where one can view the American Dipper, a rare bird that can both walk and swim under the cool, flowing waters. Roughlock Falls is a day use area only; no overnight camping. Park entrance is not required.
An easy hike that passes by a beautiful meadow and offers several stopping points below the falls for pictures. Finishes above the falls with a nice bathroom area and several picnic tables.
This address was wrong so it took longer to find. But it was so worth it! You can do the 2 mile round trip hike which is stunningly beautiful. You can also drive to the falls if you can't manage the hike. Check out the fishing bridge at the start of the hike. Lots of fish and the water is crystal clear.
Nice quick stop to stretch your legs and view this waterfall. Not overly busy.
Heavenly😇😇😇gives you a calm... peaceful...could absolutely live there🥰🥰🥰🥰
