Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 01, 2022Nice big open meadow right off a paved road with beautiful views of the Black Hills and a clear running creek outside our door. Close to a national forest campground that has a dumpster and vault toilets, the host said it was cool to use them. Quiet road, mostly paved, it turns to a good gravel road for about 2 miles then becomes paved again. (Be sure to approach from North Rochford Rd! and not from Cheyenne Crossing if you have a big rig. There are a number of small bridges that must be crossed from Cheyenne Crossing that are only rated for 4 tons and they are small.) You will pass the meadow area on your right about 1/2 mile before Hanna Campground but the turn in is a bit steep and tight. We went down to the campground and turned around easily with a 34 ft motor home to make the turn in easier. Its a little bumpy once you come off the road into the meadow but just go slow and it's fine. Room for atleast 5 rigs. Cheyenne Crossing is a nice little store and cafe and has the essentials about 2 miles past Hanna Campground. Verizon reported 4g 1 bar but was spotty. AT&T was great with 14 down and 1.5 up. Even had a herd of elk pass through the meadow at dinner time one evening.
No campfires or charcoal grilles outside of managed campgrounds in this area of the Black Hills. Burgers and onion rings at Lewies' in Lead are amazing! 10 minutes away.

Nice grassy area alongside a dirt forest service road. Some noise from periodic ATV users going by, otherwise quiet. The near by Long Draw Rd spot is more special, but it was occupied. This is nice second choice location. No phone service with T-Mobile.

3-4 spots along a very quiet paved road. Perfect for Vans, but the road down to the meadow is probably too steep for anything larger. If full, there are some more nice spots about 1 mile up Long Draw Rd at (44.2486150, -103.8448610).

This is a great spot to camp for a few days and explore the Black Hills area around Lead and Deadwood. We were able to get our 32’ class c in with a tow Jeep. Lots of ATVs go by in the daytime, but nights are very quiet.

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend, arriving on Thursday. This is a large meadow .4 miles SE of Hanna Campground. The meadow has an entrance/exit at each end. Pulling a trailer, we used the entrance/exit on the side nearer Hanna Campground as it was less steep. We drove across the meadow (there’s a worn path across) to camp in the pull thru on the grass on the far right. A great spot by the creek with trees for shade, easy to level. Over the weekend there were a half dozen other campers spread across the meadow, all tent campers. Nice quiet folks.
We wouldn’t want to try this area if the ground was muddy. It was a nice location to visit Lead and Spearfish Canyon. We had cell coverage (AT&T) and internet streaming.
Taking others advice, we went to Hanna Campground and asked the host if we could fill our eight gallon water jugs. He said no but we could get water at Cheyenne Crossing. Asked there and the lady said they had no water available. Luckily we were able to make do with what we had.

Bring a sickle or a weed whacker and you’ll love it. About four spots for tents, vans or small trailers/RVs with high clearance - the entrance and exit are pretty steep. The small creek rushing along the back was nice. A few motorcycles and UTVs went by, but not too early or too late. Peaceful…
