“Camping & RV in Las Vegas, NM”
Travelers along the Santa Fe Trail used to arrive on horseback or by wagon to this lawless frontier town, where Billy the Kid once evaded a lynch mob. Today, travelers enjoy a more civilized reception at this KOA, tucked into the pinon- and juniper-scented foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Wagon-wheel ruts, 900 historic buildings and the Fort Union National Monument highlight the area's past. Lakes and a national wildlife refuge showcase its natural wonders. Come in for our tasty breakfast buffet from 7:30 am to 9:00 am at a bargain price of only $8.00 plus tax per person. Find Southwest items in the campground store. Pool: May 15 - September 15. Max pull thru: 110 feet. Your host: John Ussery

The gravel and dirt can be a little bothersome after rain or snow which we experienced, but everything worked and the folks were very helpful. There is vegetation and trees.
Our favorite thing about this stop was that it introduced to Las Vegas, New Mexico. A great little town with a lot character and history especially in the old-town historic district.

This is a nice campground with a very pretty view and friendly staff. The bathrooms and laundry room were clean and our site was level. We stayed here on our way Northwest to catch up on laundry but found that we another day to explore the area. Las Vegas is a nice little town with a free Rough Rider museum that was interesting.
Fort Union National Monument is a close drive and worth a visit. The Sante' Fe National Forest is a breathtaking drive with great views.

Bottom sites were gravel and level. Water pipe broke and we were without water for part of a day. This is older park with pool but it rained everyday so didn’t use it. Water pressure is low so you don’t need a gauge. It has a dog park but had to wade through weeds to get there and trash bin for dog bags was full to brim. Told guy and he told us it wasn’t his job. WiFi sketchy at best.
Awkward way to exit park for big rigs. Couldn’t male the turn without going into ditch or take water line out. Had to back down hill and leave through empty sites.

We wanted to explore the town of Las Vegas, and there were few choices so we landed here. With that said, this place is OK. The lower sites (1 through 7) are the most level, head-in sites and are on gravel. Water main had leaked at the site we were on and the water pressure is not great. The hillside sites are challenging after heavy rains, so be advised. However the view for us out of our Airstream was much nicer than on the lower sites. Bathrooms are clean, if old. People running it are very friendly and willing to make things work. Be advised this is between I-25 and the train tracks, so it's not going to be idyllically quiet but it is very convenient to the town. The view of the piñon pines is great and the hillside view is typically New Mexico - red dirt, pines, grasses and immense blue sky.

Friendly owner and staff. Clean grounds. Bathroom was clean but needs updating. New owners are working to update things and were nice helpful with our needs. There had been snow and so as it got cooler as it got darker there was a lot of ice. It would have been helpful for driving in as well as walking around if the gravel road and site was plowed/cleared more and salted. We had to ask them to come salt outside our camper because it got very icy right outside our door and walking out of our site. They happily came and did it right away. We also asked for some firewood which they brought right to our site it was $5 and they gave us a starter someone in the area makes with wood shavings, other kindling and wax. Even after clearing the little bit of snow out of our fire pit the wood seemed like it was still a bit wet, the fire had a hard time staying lit.
Not many people were out and about there were a few people who rented on a monthly basis but most people seemed to come in just for the night. Although there were many open sites they had a handful available for anyone who showed up after hours. The site was very quiet except for a bit of highway traffic. We could hear when big rigs went by. We only heard a train go by once and it was in the late morning and was pretty quiet. I don’t know that we would stay here again on purpose but if we needed a place to stop over it’s a good spot with easy highway access but nicer than a cheaper off the highway rvpark.

I made my reservation on line. I arrived, and went to the office. The person there was VERY polite and helpful. I was taken to my site, and was setup in very little time.
This park has more amenities than I had time or desire to take advantage of on this trip. The views here were very nice. I wouldn't mined spending more time here if I had the opportunity. But I just needed an overnight stay. The price paid was steeper than some I've paid on this trip. But I chose to spend the money for the convenience.

I stayed here last year. This makes a good stopover/one night location for me. I still think it's a bit expensive for what you get. But, obviously not so much that I wouldn't come back.
It looks like they've done some work/improvements since I was here last. This park is a mix of what I'd say are well maintained sites, and activity/amenity areas that could use a bit more TLC.
This is my second year of RVing, and as previously stated, my second stay here. On this trip I've noticed RV parks don't like it very much when you show up an hour or two early (prior to checkout). I'd say, it's STRONGLY discouraged. I understand if they can't accommodate me early, and am happy to wait, and always make that clear. I didn't really notice it being an "issue" last year. This trip, I've had a few comments made.
The lady at the office of this park seemed particularly miffed at me for being early. Even after I apologized and said it was on me, and I was happy to wait, she preceded lecture me, and splain to me all they have to do to go through check out, and get ready for the next visitor. Turn's out, all the while, my site, the one I reserved prepaid in advance was empty, and available to be occupied. But I'm not sure that is material to the real or imagined "issue" at hand).
On a somewhat related note. I've not experienced any angst when I pull out a couple hours before checkout time to get an early start. Just say'n....🤨
Anyway, once the nice lady learned my site was in fact ready to be occupied in spite of me being a couple hours early, she politely showed me to my location. All's well that ends well...

Easy access off the interstate. We had a 41 foot 5th wheel. Make sure you study your map getting in and out as it can be tight. The paved road coming in is rough. They really care for this park and do a great job keeping it nice even in the dead of winter.

4/5/2021 Right off the highway. One of the nicer KOA's we have stayed at. True the sites are close together which is typical at KOA's but this campground had lots of established trees. Many pull through sites. One of the unique things is they provide a full breakfast for a very nominal cost which got us going quickly. Pancakes, Eggs, Potatoes (with green chilis). It was really tasty. Despite being right off the highway it is quiet. They are clearly working on improving the sites. Fresh gravel. Looked very clean. We were welcomed warmly and felt appreciated. We would stay here again.
