“the 16th president's head!”
The Lincoln Monument is a bust of Abraham Lincoln by Robert Russin, 12 1⁄2 feet (3.8 m) high and resting on a 30-foot-tall (9.1 m) granite pedestal, at the Summit Rest Area on Interstate 80 east of Laramie, Wyoming. Russin originally erected the sculpture in 1959 nearby on Sherman Hill, overlooking the old U.S. Highway 30 (Lincoln Highway). In 1969, after Interstate 80 was built, state officials moved the monument to become a centerpiece at the Summit Rest Area and Visitor Center between the cities of Cheyenne and Laramie.
Pretty cool place to see! We navigated it using the link in the app and it took us to the wrong place. It is right off exit 323.
If you're driving by, just stop! A very cool stature, nice restrooms, and it's the highest elevation on i80.
Great place to use the restroom and stretch your legs off I-80. Not only is the massive Lincoln impressive but there's a small museum inside that tells about the history of Laramie and the Lincoln Highway. There is all kind of travel information about all over the state. There were two ladies working inside to give you additional information if needed. Well kept, clean, and informational!!
Visit at night. It's amazing looking!
Almost past it without looking thinking you wouldn't be able to see it at night from the interstate but it's well lit. Pretty cool 😎
Great quick stop right off I80. Nice photo opportunities. Awesome visitor center with plenty of brochures and fun free stickers you can collect along I 80.
