Called ahead and they said no problem, just stay near the outside of the parking lot. We parked near another camper on the front side of the lot. The highway was a little busy until late in the evening and we had a number of semi trucks drive by and park near us throughout the night. Not too loud that we couldn't sleep but we did wake up a couple times.
It's a smaller, older Walmart so they don't have as much as a Supercenter but it was a clean store and had plenty of supplies that we needed (including Clorox wipes!)
The road can be a bit noisy and semis parked near me after Walmart closed and had their engines and music on for a while but eventually left. Not too loud I couldn’t fall asleep and overall felt safe.
I pulled into their parking lot just before dark on February 12, 2022. I went to the service managers desk and asked if RV parking overnight was allowed. She said most assuredly, enjoy your stay. She pointed across the lot and said park over that way or over that way.
One of few remaining Walmarts that allow overnight parking for Campers, and Truckers. But do not presume anything, as that could always change. Even if you see other rigs in the outer perimeter of the parking lot, go inside to customer service and ask permission. And by all means, let them see you grab a shopping cart and do a little shopping.
I took this a step further and spent about 2 hours filling up two trash bags full of litter that was all over the area where we camped. Apparently, there are a lot of campers and truckers that could care less whether we continue to have a place to overnight.
And don’t be surprised if you get knocked out by a bad smell. I believe someone else mentioned the “Stockyards”. At about 6:45pm yesterday, as I was eating a piece of pie (from Walmart), the direction of the breeze shifted…. And oh boy! It was Strong. Fortunately, after about two hours and the direction shifted again.
So again, it’s free, it’s convenient; so let’s all be good stewards and pick up after ourselves, and maybe the careless few.
We camped here in our Promaster DIY camper van. We called ahead to be sure it was allowed. Not too much road noise. Good location at the edge of town.
