“celebrating wonders of the natural world”
The mission of Knoxville Zoological Gardens is to celebrate the wonders of the natural world. Through education, conservation, exhibition, research and recreation, the zoo will tell the stories of the animals, the plants and the people who make up the communities of the earth. The zoo will develop positive attitudes and actions about nature and about conservation as a local and global issue.
So much more then just a zoo! You can also ride a train, play in the splash pad, camel rides, carousel rides and multiple shows and animal encounters that you can do. Plus they offer behind the scenes tours.
I was pleasantly surprised by how interactive & kid-centered this zoo is. The cost was similar to what we have seen at other zoos. My kids loved it. They are currently expanding the exhibits & we want to go back (We are from Indiana). I will say if you drive a bus or rv, we didn't find parking designated for larger vehicles. So, park at the first lot you come to or else you will have a tough time maneuvering through the lot down by the entrance.
The name is Zoo Knoxville as of a few years ago. Admission is $18 per adult. Check their site for times and info. You also pay $5 for parking. It was a nice and well laid out zoo.
We had a good time with our 4 year old. I wish that the carousel was included in the price. The animals seem to be well cared for and are easy to view. There are concessions all over the place along with restrooms.
