This information provided by USDA Forest Service
There are several dispersed campsites along the trail and it is well marked at all junctions. This trail offers a panoramic view of the Hells Canyon country. In the early spring many wildflowers may be seen along the trail. This trail also offers excellent wildlife viewing, such as elk, bighorn sheep, deer and bear. Remnants of past ranching activities may be seen along the trail. During the late 1800s homesteading was a way of life in Hells Canyon. By 1910, over 100 families lived on the 62-mile stretch of the Snake River between Battle Creek and the Imnaha River. However, the homestead boom was short-lived, as weather ill-suited to farming and ranching, coupled with a depression of livestock prices, were too much for most homesteaders to bear. By 1918, fewer than five percent of the homesteaders remained on their claims.
CONSIDERATION
Parking is available 1/2 mile west of the Ranch site on Access #1. There is a small opening where the road ends and parking is available. The area has enough room to turn around. A few dispersed campsites are located around the parking area.
