Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on February 28, 2022We saw that this is a military campground. We were not sure if it was open to civilians, so we called ahead. We were told that yes it is as long as active training isn't taking place on the grounds of the campground. We arrived on a Thursday and left on a Monday. There are mostly permanent campers and travel trailers. Some are occupied and some are not. The full-hookup sites seemed to be permanently occupied. There appeared to be approximately 6 dry sites available including the one we were in. We had two bars of cell signal on Verizon & TMobile. There's constant artillery fire, so if that bothers you, stay away.
There's one port-a-potty near the entrance with a hand wash station. Very clean! No water or dump station.

Campground on the army base, open for use by all. There is water available at some sites and a clean Porta-Potty but electric is not available (there's electric at two sites but they are on a month's-long wait list) and no dumping on base. Maybe about 30 sites in all. An old, somewhat run down campground but actually very clean and pleasant. Since it has a stable population of monthly renters, it seemed pretty well organized. Lots of hunters come here as well as some of the contractors who work on the nearby base. A number of the sites are drive through and can handle any size rig. Federal land so I paid $5 a night with my senior pass. No artillery noise in the 4 days I was there. 9 mb down load and 1.6 mb upload on Verizon
As the previous reviewer noted, a number of the sites seem to the monthly rentals by contractors at the nearby Fort Liggett base, while a bunch of sites are often taken by hunters, according to one of the friendly contractors. I was assured that if all 30 numbered sites were taken, people just camp in informal spots. The gas station and post exchange on the nearby base seem to be open to the base contractors to use but when I approached the gate I was told, very pleasantly, that I would only be allowed to get gas if I was 'really low' - he looked in my car and checked my gauge(!), and that I needed to go to King City (22 miles away) for all of my supplies. Someone who's better at sweet talking might have been able to get on the base. :-)
Sounds like the nearby beautiful Nacimiento Road that goes over a pass to the Coast highway won't be open completely till probably 2023 (it was taken out by a huge rainstorm in 2020), but 15 mi of it is open and there are a couple of open Los Padres National Forest campgrounds on the road to see.
