“the first hard rock mine in the Silver Valley”
Step into the past at Crystal Gold Mine, the only authentic 1880s underground gold mine tour in the Northwest, located near Kellogg, Idaho. Discovered in 1879 by gold prospector Tom Irwin and later revitalized by Bill and Judy Lane, this Silver Valley mine offers a unique glimpse into the gold rush era, and the history of gold mining in Idaho. Explore the hidden world of mining where workers toiled by candlelight. The guided tour reveals the secrets of drilling with hand steels, single and double jacks, and tracing the quartz vein using 19th-century techniques. Marvel at the beautiful stalactite crystals and visible traces of gold and wire silver within the quartz. Crystal Gold Mine, easily accessible off Idaho Exit 54 on Interstate 90, offers more than just a tour. Engage in Gemstone Panning, a thrilling activity for all ages. Choose from three types of pay-dirt: The Prospector, Emerald Strike, and The Mother Lode. Each comes with an identification card and keeper bag, ensuring you take a piece of history home. Find your treasure with gemstone panning packages ranging from $9 to $36, or opt for a Mine Tour and Gemstone Panning combo deal. Experience the excitement of unearthing fossils and gemstones at this historical, fun-filled destination.

This was a great stop! Super impressed with our tour guide and all the information we learned. My kids loved stopping in and learning and also loved mining for gold at the end! It was super hard to find gold but they put fun rocks in there too that my kids really enjoyed "mining" for. The gift shop was fun too. Staff very friendly.
A lot of fun and very informative. Takes a little over an hour and would definitely recommend!
This was a fantastic little stop on our road trip! They were so nice and informative! You get to sift for gold at the end, would definitely recommend. Take about an hour or so.
We enjoyed the guided tour with Chris. Great family experience that is just off the Interstate. If you have the time in your trip, this is worth the stop!
This was a nice little campground beside a gold mine, in an ideal location for sightseeing in the area. The mine owners were very friendly and the campground spotlessly clean. Half the sites were occupied by permanent residents, but their trailers were all recent models and in excellent shape. The only problem was the noise from I-90 right outside, which was constant and intrusive. The sites for recreational campers were furthest from the road, and mostly pull-through.
From here, I visited the adjacent gold mine (Crystal Gold Mine), the Old Mission, the Sierra Silver Mine, Northern Pacific Depot Museum and the Center of the Universe, and rode the Silver Mountain gondola.
Verizon 4G was 3 bars, -105 dB, 3 Mbps down and 0.5 up.

This is the cutest little campground. They have really informative tours of the gold mine and gold panning both on site. The gift shop has a nice variety and good prices. The pull through sites are plenty big and it’s kept clean. It’s close to I-90, but close to many local things to do and see in the area as well. The owners are super nice too.

Pros are that it was clean, owners seemed nice, and the gold mine had a lot of visitors and looked fun. Cons are the noise is very loud from the interstate, no wifi (cell service was unusable), and the sites are half level. They had 40ft sites that they said were pull-through, but they are about 20ft asphalt then a couple inch drop to a sloped ~20ft of gravel. It'd be nice if you have a 20-25ft. trailer and you plan on unhooking and parking your tow vehicle behind it, but if you're longer or don't want to disconnect then you basically have to sleep uphill. So we left for a much easier free option nearby.

Same site #10, same campground conditions. Nice staff, convenient to bike trail and towns in Silver Valley. Road noise because it's a narrow valley. Quite a few long term campers at other end. Old mining equipment to look at on walks.

Right by a highway. I came in when it was unhealthy smoke in the area to get hookups but they said $90/night plus tax for a 30amp site. I said no thank you

We loved it! Very educational and fun. My 9 year old said, “I wish we could come back here every day!”
