Bunting Trail

Bunting Trail is a roughly 4-mile roundtrip out-and-back hiking and equestrian trail on the southwest side of Kanab, UT. The trail climbs from the valley floor to the top of Bunting Point, 860 feet above. The trail begins with a slope up a gentle grade. Keep an eye out for a sign pointing out a side wash that leads to a sandstone boulder containing preserved dinosaur tracks. After approximately 0.5 miles, the main trail reaches the foot of the Vermilion Cliffs. It becomes more challenging as it climbs up to the top of a saddle that offers extensive views of the landscape below. From the saddle, the trail grows less distinct but it’s possible to explore in both directions along the ridgeline before heading to the trailhead by the same route. Bunting Trail is open to foot and horse traffic only; bicycles and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Dogs are welcome, but their waste must be packed out. The trailhead offers a parking area and an informational kiosk but no other amenities. For more information and detailed maps, visit the Kanab Visitor Center (BLM) in Kanab, UT. Bunting Trail is primarily clay based. Please refrain from using the trail when it is wet or snow covered to protect the trail surface. The trailhead parking lot is flood prone and best avoided if there is a risk of heavy rain or flooding.
