The Green River Campground is located along the banks of the Green River in a grove of cottonwood trees at an elevation of 4795 (4162 feet). The highly eroded Split Mountain towers to the north of the campground. The famous dinosaur quarry, where you can see 150 million year old dinosaur bones still encased in rock is approximately 5 miles (8 km) from the campground. Nearby is the Split Mountain Boat Ramp where river rafters come off the Green River after trips through Dinosaur National Monument's canyons.

Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on August 30, 2023This campground is right on the Green River and is peppered with well cared for old cottonwood trees. The trees provide shade for some sites while other sites are more exposed. This can be important if you visit during the summer when the area is quite hot and also a consideration if you use solar as a power source. The campground is about 4 miles from the entrance of the park. Because it is within a national park you will need to pay a fee to get in or use your national park pass which is a bargain for those that visit national parks often through the year. The campground is down a hill from the road, but you do not need to disconnect your towed vehicle until you get to the campground where there is ample room to do so. The roads in the campground have quite a few trees but we found it easy to navigate even with the car in tow while we picked a spot.
This is a no hookup campground so fill your tank BEFORE even getting to the park. There is no dump station of water to fill while you are in the campground. There is water at the restrooms but no way to fill a tank. Sites are not very private but I would not call it a parking lot either. You can hear the river from most sites and the view of the surrounding topography is breathtaking.
A few things about why Dinosaur is amazing. It has fossilized dinosaur bones...and a covered excavation site where you can even touch some bones! The hikes throughout the park are amazing. My favorite hike called Sounds of Silence trail takes you on a 3.5 mile loop through washes, up canyons, across slick rock and through old juniper stands. Absolutely incredible. Dinosaur is also a great place for star-gazing as one of the few areas in the country with very little light pollution to obstruct the starry sky. The rangers put on a stargazing talk with telescopes that I thought was amazing. If you can time your visit when the moon is not out the stars will completely overwhelm you. There are also some very interesting old homesteads to see. The monument is huge so you will need transportation to get from one sight to the next.
This is a barebones campground that puts you right in the heart of a great national monument.

This campground is small, beautiful, and shaded with level spots. It sits down in a valley by the river, but was still pretty hot in the summer. From the park you can hike, explore petroglyphs -- there's so much to see!

We stayed here while visiting Dinosaur National Monument and really enjoyed our stay. The Campground is easy to get in and out of and sits below the main road and just off the banks of the Green River. There are several cottonwood trees throughout the campground that provide shade to some site. We had a tree in our site (42) and enjoyed the afternoon shade it provided. There are a few pull through sites that look nice but the majority are back-in. I would avoid any of the pull-off sites (like 82) unless it is the only thing you can fit in. All of the sites we saw were asphalt and very level. They all have a fire pit and pick-nick table. There are several restroom building throughout the campground. Water fountains and jug filling spigots are available along with dumpsters. The majority of the sites are first-come but in speaking with some of the rangers the camp rarely fills up (typically only on major holidays).
There is a large squirrel population that occupy the campground. They are not shy and will nearly come right up to you. They also frequently visit anything that you leave outside so be prepared to keep your trash off the ground and your doors closed.
There was little to no generator noise while we were there but the temperatures we fairly mild for the area. In the middle of summer it will be very hot and I imagine there will be more people running their AC.
There is a nice hike out of the north end of the campground (River Trail). It takes you along the river to the abandon Split Mountain campground. I would highly recommend you do this in the evening as the entire trail is in the shade from the mountain to the west. During the day there is little to no shade on this trail and it would be very hot. We saw a lot of jackrabbits, lizards, deer and an otter during our hike. There is a great summit point about half way through the hike that give a great view south towards the Green River Campground. We recorded 3.2 miles round trip for the hike.

We loved our stay here. The campground wasn't amazing - sites were pretty tight although we had two adjoining back in sites (to share with my parent's pop up camper) and didn't feel crowded. The back in sites are definitely better than the pull through sites.
Overall we had a great time and having the river right by the campground was both beautiful and peaceful. We'd definitely stay here again!
Great 4G signal with our booster - had no problems working!

Beautiful with easy Big-Rig access. No hook-ups and no water fill/dump availability, but bathrooms are available (no showers). Very quiet, beautiful surroundings; you are able to see fellow campers all around you, but we didn't feel claustrophobic. Loop 'A' is all 'first-come, first-serve' with at least 3 pull-though spaces that could accommodate our 40'rig & 2 back in spaces that could do the same (a few more spaces that could have fit our large-ness are currently closed for 'rehab'). Camp host was friendly. Some trees throughout that provide shade to some spaces. Trails are nearby and river is visible from many camping spots. Firewood can be purchased right on site. Picnic tables and fire rings (with grill) at each site. Spots are pretty level. Road to access campground is a bit windy, but nothing scary or unmanageable. We were unable to get Verizon cell service, but did extended 3G (3 bars) for our hotspot. AT&T was fine- 4g (2bars).

We enjoyed our stay here along the Green River. Our site has a small trail that we dragged our chairs down and setup right next to the river. Ahhh.....
Beautiful scenery and great park and surrounding sites including the Petroglyphs and original homesteader cabins.
We were able to use a 'water cop' to get water. But suggest coming into the park with water. Spigots are low to the ground and hard to fill water tall water containers.
Bathrooms are clean and have flush toilets, but no showers.
Sites are level and not too close together. Fire rings and picnic tables at each site. We appreciated that 2/3 of the park is first come/first serve basis. We found our loop to be quiet and enjoyable with just a little bit of shade.
Hosts and rangers are great. They put on some ranger programs in the evening that we enjoyed. Always learn something new. I had no idea that most of the dinosaurs bones I have seen around the country (from Smithsonian to Chicago) are from this site. Well worth a stop!
We had not cellular service but were able to get internet. Gosh darn couldn't talk to anyone:-) We used a booster and had Verizon3G with no issues (achieved 5 bars boosted). T-mobile did not work at all, even with a booster.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July. HOT!!! When the sun goes down, it cools down though. We enjoyed the evening ranger programs by the river. The sites are well spaced out, and we enjoyed the little meadow in front of our campsite for wildlife watching, and a place to or the boy to play. Exploring Dinosaur National Monument with a 6 year old is priceless.

The "A" Loop has the fewest trees, but I actually thought the sites along the river were some of the best in the campground. I liked 8, though 9 and 10 had better access to the river. The pull-through sites on the inner side of the loop were awkward because the loops are set up for one-way traffic, so depending on the site, the door to the camper/RV would face the access road and not the site.

Great campground if you like dry camping. We loved it, and would stay again. Temps can get warm during the day but it cools off quick at night.

We were in loop A which is walk in. Loop C is also walk in. Loop B is reservations only at least 24 hours in advance. We have a senior pass so the cost was $9 per night. The sites are all paved and level. No hookups, but there is central water and flush toilets. Our site #8 had splendid view of Split Mountain and it was on the river. However swimming is prohibited due to the swift current.
