Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on May 18, 2023We stopped here for a night on our way west. It is a beautiful large grassy area with some options under the trees and others in the open. There are also horse corrals on the far edge. There were several other groups of campers here and lots of ATVs. The easiest way to get here is get off I 94 at Exit 256 and go north on 52/281. There are signs for the campground on the road. We got off at Exit 258 because the exit sign indicated 52/281 was at that exit, but we ended up driving through the town. Exit 256 is much shorter and quicker. Your Golden Age/America the Beautiful Pass is good here so we only paid $5 per night. We didn’t hear any road noise. It was very windy but at least the sun was out!

We were the only campers here for two days and enjoyed it!
There appeared to be no actual designated sites except in the very back of the park. We just pulled in next to a pavillion/picnic table and it was surprisingly level. There is a horse camp on the north side of the campground. It's dry camping but there is a dump station.
The reservoir and boat ramp are right down the road; Jamestown is only a few miles away. Your federal access pass gets you a discount here so we paid only half of the usual $10.

E tried to get to the campground but missed the first turn via Waze and took the 2nd turn down gravel which turned into a single lane dirt road which turned into a muddy lane we were unable to plow thru. Backed up near a mile thru ruts and mud and just gave up. I’m sure it’s-a nice place but follow directions of previous posters and do not follow Waze there. We camped else where in our 26 ft class C

Good place to stay about 8 miles north of I-94 with trees for shade. With bathroom, no water, but very quiet as we were the only campers there on an August evening. A few day-use people. Trail through meadow, but we didn't have time to do it. One newer pit toilet near entrance was good.

As you come down the access road, the pin that Campendium marks is the entrance to the grassy upper area if you turn right. If you continue straight it will take you down to a wide open area towards the reservoir.
The grassy area was nicely mowed and has rows of trees with gravel/dirt parallel roads. There are no marked areas to park except 6 back in sites to the west with a view of the lake. There were several ramadas, movable picnic tables and old style outhouses. Three RV’s were parked on the grass between the rows of trees while we were there. We opted for a sunny lake view back in site. Near the entrance there was the pay station, trash bins, dump station and a modern outhouse.
If you head straight towards the lake instead of turning right into the grassy area, there is a huge open area with areas of level parking. There were some old style outhouses, a few cement pads and a couple old ramadas. People were also camped down here. There is no shade here. It looks and feels very primitive.
There is access to trails on the lower part as well as a 2 boat launches.

We were the only people in the campground. Great views of the lake and perfectly groomed trails to walk the dogs. Easily accessible from the highway and a great one night stop on the drive thru ND

We spent one night in one of the only 6 gravel spots you see in the pictures.. they are a bit sloppy side to side and some front to back.. We were in the middle on back side which seem to be the most level.. Our Anderson levelers were able to get up level about half way on them.
The area is quiet for sure.. there was a couple others in the park,, one tent and several RR,, one MH over by the entrance past the envelope box was running a genny.. (we are full solar so NO noise.)
There was a rig down by the boat ramp, not sure if they stayed the night it looked like there were fishing only.
apparently there is a camp host on the right past the dump station at some point,, they were not here on our visit.
sunset was spectacular for sure.. on the back side its to the back right of you.. these site with gravel are good for solar but bad for heat in summer.. other place has some shade you can find.. there are some picnic table and fire rigs in random places so its what ever, where there is a spot..
Price was still shown at 10 a night for max of 14 days in any 30 day period..
