“Fostering the significance of the bison”

The mission of the North Dakota Buffalo Foundation (NDBF) is to foster awareness of the cultural and historical significance of the North American bison. By operating the National Buffalo Museum, maintaining a live bison herd, and conducting educational programs, the NDBF fulfills this mission; plays a vital role in local, state, and national tourism; and helps to promote the bison industry. Together, the National Buffalo Museum and bison herd contribute to the distinctive character of Jamestown, the “Buffalo City”. The National Buffalo Museum and bison herd are located at the Frontier Village, near the intersection of Highway 281 and Interstate 94 (exit 258). Museum exhibits focus primarily on the history of bison in the plains culture, but offer something for every interest. Displays include Plains Indian artifacts; a wide variety of artwork; the 19th century firearms used by bison hunters; remains of prehistoric bison; a children’s room featuring wildlife of North Dakota; and video presentation about the history of bison.

We had a good time. Nice walk through the old buildings. Saw the third generation sacred white buffalo. Easy in easy out. No charges. Was nice.

Very enjoyable. Descriptions of things to see here are accurate. We spent roughly 1 1/2 hours here. I left with a real appreciation for the bison and those that worked to save them. Place was clean and not crowded at all. Saw the white byffalo, but expected more in the herd than I saw on my visit. Would recommend spending the money to go into the museum.

What a pleasant surprise! Thought we were stopping for a quick stretch & photo, ended up staying about an hour. Of all the stops on our cross country road trip, including several of the big National Parks, this is in my kids’ top 3 favorite stops!

The Biggest Buffalo in the World is fun, along with the stagecoach ride, and replica of an Ol’ West Town that is a block long. The exhibits are informative and easy to read. Definitely worth a stop.

Nice picnic areas throughout the Frontier Village. Go to the museum gift shop for the best selection of buffalo items.

This is a great stop. Everything is free and the bathrooms are clean. Easy in and out with a live Buffalo herd, pony rides, giant Buffalo for pictures and an old timey town.
