Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on March 10, 2024Only 30 miles to the entrance of the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We stopped here one night on our way home from the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. There are several sites depending how far back into the forest you want to go. It’s only a couple miles from the Jacob Lake Inn and restaurant. They also had a food truck with Indian fry bread. Guess what we had for lunch!

If you like boon docking this is your place. Turn right off of hwy 89 onto forest road 257. Bear right to stay on the forest road and go about a half mile for peace, sun, views, and stars. No people. Aspen woods and a cool breeze There are a few pull outs with fire rings. Just keep going until you’ve found your spot. We felt like we’d arrived in heaven. We pulled a 19’ trailer easily. Road was fine.

By mid October, Jacob Lake USFS CG had closed and I found this as an alternative and recommend it highly. All weather gravel road off of the highway & hang a quick right and in about 200m there are several places to camp that are level under tall trees. No road noise, 3 bars of Verizon LTE.

The good news is the stop was easy and no one was around . We went and the weather was bad. Got a dusting of snow (7500ft) and rain. The spot was good though but we did not go back to far due to weather. Would stop again in better weather.
