“Only Surviving North America Morse Code Station”
KPH is a public coast radio station on the West Coast of the United States. Guglielmo Marconi sited and commissioned the building of a wireless telegraphy transmitting station west of Bolinas and a receiving station in Marshall on Tomales Bay in 1913–14. The Marshall station was supplanted in 1929 to support the growing point-to-point business in the Pacific by a new Art Deco-designed facility at Point Reyes Beach on the "G" Ranch. Few of the succeeding generations of antennas—arranged in "farms"—remain at the two sites. However, the radio equipment, ship-to-shore Morse communications, and teletype—some of it dating to the World War II-era—remains intact, has been restored and made functional, and is used to broadcast on numerous frequencies, including KPH.historic KPH Radio Station, also known as Marine Coast Station KPH. To reach the station, you must first pass through a clerestory tunnel of cypress trees near the Point Reyes National Seashore. Walking or driving through the towering trees only adds to the excitement of approaching the historic radio station
The Roadtrippers pin is beyond off, we followed the original pin and it took us to a private road that was gated shut. If you keep going along the main road that takes you to the light house or chimney rock trail you will see it on the way on the right side of the road. Can’t miss it! It is definitely worth the stop to just walk through the trees and read about the radio station that dwells there. Good luck :)
