“Featuring the hair of Presidents”
The ONLY hair museum in the world with hundreds of wreaths and thousands of jewelry pieces made from human hair. The Hair jewelry was worn both by men and women of the Victorian period (1800 - 1900) and earlier. You will find pieces containing hair from Queen Victoria, four presidents and multiple celebrities ranging from Michael Jackson to Marilyn Monroe. The museum also has reliquaries of Mary (Mother of Jesus), the cross, St. Anne (Jesus' Grandmother), and more.
I have been to literally hundreds of museums in my life, but this one was one of the most unique ones. Although I had seen several hair wreaths and jewelry pieces made from human hair before, it was usually just one or two items on display at a historical museum. This place is amazing in both the quantity, quality, and variety of items made with human hair on display. Well worth the the time and cost of admission.
Admission is $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. Filled with neat stuff that we didn't know existed before
Was featured on Mike Rowe's "Somebody's Got to Do It" first episode.
definately worth the 6$ to get in and learn about this forgotteb art!
Current closed, since March. Sign on the doors says that they hope to open soon.
The place looked closed when we drove up but we risked a tug on the door... Absolutely worth a stop! I can't remember her name but the girl who gave us the tour was AWESOME and her knowledge of "everything hair" was incredible. I ended up buying the How-To book on hair jewelry and wish I had the time to take the class.
Keep it up, ladies!
It was closed!!! D:
