We are not usually big fans of private RV parks, but we wanted a place with full hook-ups to get everything charged and tanks filled or emptied as appropriate prior to 12 days of dry camping. The KOA at Lemolo Lake was perfect for that and we would not hesitate to stay here again. The sites are typical, a bit closer than we care for, but with lots of tall pines to provide shade. Roads and campsites are packed gravel and each site has a firepit and picnic table. We were given an end site (#29) which was ideal with easy access to the nature trail and large open spaces to walk the puppers.
This KOA is small with only 24 RV sites (most with FHU-50 amp), 8 tent sites and several cabins. There’s a small camp store/office and restroom/shower and laundry facilities. The park has a separate dump station and also sells propane. There are several boat ramps and the park rents boats, kayaks and paddle boards.
The KOA provided many family/kid friendly activities while we were there including a hay ride and ice cream socials. There’s a nice playground for the kids and a fenced off-leash dog area. But the real draw here is Lemolo Lake, it was stunning and nearly deserted. Each evening we walked down to the lake with the pups for water play and often we were the only ones there. The campground was very quiet too.
My only real knock was the amount of broken glass I found both in our campsite and along the trails. I picked up handfuls every time we went out. Other than that, the park was clean and well maintained, so I have to wonder where it all came from.
We had 2 bars of Verizon 4G.
Stayed here the very beginning of Oct 2022. Site type: Pull-through, FHU, 50 AMP.
SUMMARY:
It's more like a state campground with a KOA price.
Wooded campground on a lake close to Crater Lake.
Get your groceries and fill up before you get to the campground due to remote location.
Limited connectivity.
THE GOOD
Sites: Spacious pull-through sites.
Location: 25 minutes from the northern entrance of Crater Lake NP.
Location: You are in the woods with the nearest full-service grocery store 80 miles away. So it is very peaceful.
The grounds: Maintained well enough.
Office/Store: They have some grocery basics (eggs, milk, bread, etc) as well as RV basic needs.
THE BAD
Management: More difficult to deal with when changes arise, compared to other RV parks.
Token system: You need to buy tokens for laundry. Tokens are also used for 8 min showers (showers are free).
COULD BE BETTER: (not necessarily good or bad)
Sites: All dirt sites and wood chips for the living space / mulch. Not level.
Gas: Within 15 minutes at Diamond Lake.
Groceries/Restaurants: 1 hour and a half +/- from campground.
Wifi: No campground wifi available. Again, in the middle of the woods, so makes sense.
Cell / hotspot: Works for basic needs, but you might have issues if needing to work on vpn/secured network.
All spots under tall pines. Easy walk to the lake for swimming, kayaking, dogs to play, etc. Very well kept. Only downside was there were a ton of big families and kids running around, which made it rather noisy at times, but you’ll have that. We were very hesitant to stay here at first due to it being a KOA, but we’re pleasantly surprised.
