Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on October 03, 2023I stayed at the park while they were sold out for the first time since 1986; at least that's what the ranger said. We ran into an issue when we arrived late that some locals set up camp in our spot. Luckily the ranger took care of this but didn't help that the pad next to us was part of their group. It made an awkward night, but they moved out on Sunday. We have a group to the other side of us with a group of around 20 people so there was plenty of noise from 10-to-10. The map on recreation.org said there was a shower on the Q loop, which was not the case. I'd stay again but not over Memorial Day weekend.

Site J04. Ford F250 and Grand Design Imagine 28’. Nice almost perfectly level concrete cite. Nice picnic table with awning and table for cleaning fish. Grass but watch out for the cockle burrs of the puppies feet. Ouch.
Stayed 1 night. Walmart and town of Hugo within 5-6 miles.
Not great signage to find the park and the address was a bit off but found it and enjoyed the quiet night.
Dump station as you exit. $3 for non campers but it’s a ways down the road off the highway so I doubt many use it. Free firewood to campers which is nice.

Decent park on Hugo Lake. Would be great for those taking advantage of the lake. The flies were awful on out single night stay. Can not imagine how bad they could be in daylight. The toilet/shower facilities were awfully dirty. Trash hadn’t been emptied in a while, and facilities had not been cleaned in quite some time. We also just took another spot closer to the entrance because the area we were reserved in had a sign that said the gate was going to be closed and locked that day, yet the reservation went through without this being mentioned.

This is a terrific Army Corps of Engineers campground. Received 50% off normal fee with National Parks Access Pass. We stayed in the Quail Loop which has some of the best sites that back up to a view overlooking the lake. The drop down off of the cul de sac was a little steep but the site itself was level. Picnic table was in good shape. The grass was nicely manicured. Lots of places to drive around and explore: Playground, swim beach, lots of bird watching, trails (not so well groomed), etc. Hugo is about 10 minutes away and has restaurants, Walmart, etc. Hot showers available in several different bath houses. The co-located State park is also available for exploration and has no entrance fee. It was crazy hot in July, of course, but we were one of only about 5 campers in the entire park, so it was very quiet. No problems with the 30 amp electric or the water, but bring a 50-foot long hose. Some of the spigots are quite a ways away from the sites. We didn't make a reservation ahead of time: Pulled in, occupied the site and used www.recreation.gov to make immediate payment. The site post and power post even have QR codes for quick payment. Sites near the lake have 4G. If you get away from the lake, that fades quickly.
