“presented astronomical programs to millions of visitors”
Opened in 1964, the Burke Baker Planetarium has presented astronomical programs to millions of visitors from school groups to the general public. Our computerized SkySkan DigitalSky starfield projector is the most advanced in the world, simulating stars, planets, comets, nebulous objects and other special effects, including three-dimensional flights through space. A state-of-the-art digital stereo sound system enhances the Dome Theatre's special effects.
The Burke Baker Planetarium is a good choice for those visiting the city of Houston and would like to experience a 4D view of the cosmos.
There are quite few nice programs to watch, but in general it is not something that spectacular, especially considering the fact that it operates for more than half a century.
Its great advantage is certainly the state of the art starfield projector which is considered to be one of the best in the world, and after a while will make you feel like being in outer space. I have to admit that i was at better planetariums than this one. Otherwise, just skip it and visit the many other interesting and interactive exhibitions of Houston Museum of Natural Science!
