“The haunted grave of an unknown girl”
Located next to Mercer County Fairgrounds and features a covered area with tables, wooden play structure and plenty of grassy area. The ghost story here begins with a beautiful young woman who checked in to the Harrodsburg Springs Hotel, which stood on the park grounds in the late 1800s, under a false name. She danced with several partners in the hotel ballroom, as the men all lined up for a chance to dance with her. At the end of the night and without warning, she simply died in her last partner’s arms. The staff and guests held a funeral for her and, not knowing her identity, they buried her on the hotel grounds. The hotel burned down decades ago, but her grave still remains, under a marker that reads “UNKNOWN – Hallowed and Hushed be the place of the dead. Step Softly. Bow Head.” Local lore says her ghostly form still appears, dancing in the moonlight.
